Sunday will be a small lunch for mother's 95th birthday, going to the local RSL (well it is a country town after all). Said to her on the phone last night that she was not to pay for the lunch (she pulled a swift for her 90th) and she told me that Dad was paying. Considering he has been dead since 1994 I thought this was somewhat unusual but it turns out she received a cheque from his estate (which is still running) and so is using it to pay for lunch. No amount of cajoling will get her to allow us to pay.
Brother from Ireland has arrived, I am flying down tomorrow and brother & sister from Brisbane will go down on Saturday. There is one local brother so that will be all the children together again for the day. Unfortunately the spouses are not able to be there - so told her she will have to wait till her 100th birthday. :)
I wondered long and hard and even asked here for suggestions for a gift. In the end decided that something she could use would be better than a 'keeper' so have made up a basket of Crabtree & Evelyn and Jurlique goods for her.

Without turning this into a contest I have had glandular fever 3 times in the past 12 months. I will take a sore throat any day of the week.

I managed a bout of Hand Foot and Mouth last year - not common in adults. The most miserable I have ever been. Nothing but warm water with Manuka honey for nearly 4 days. Severe pain with hot or cold. Swallowing was unbearable.

I do not wish it on anyone and can appreciate why kids are so miserable when they have it. At least I could comprehend it would pass soon.

An 11 month old in play pen takes toys out of box, turns box upside down and tries to climb out of play pen. Almost succeeded if not for wife looking around.

Later same evening climbs onto wheel of stroller and then climbs up into stroller and stands up at back of stroller celebrating. And did it twice.

I guess you need to see it to believe it. Could end up being a problem solver same as her father? Hope she chooses a career wisely but we are a long way from that yet.

If you haven't already done so you need to start thinking about your own house now.

Putting a lock on the cupboard under the sink where the caustic cleaning materials are kept.

Moving ornaments etc from coffee tables and other lower areas to higher shelves.

Look at freestanding shelves and imagine if she stood on the lowest shelf could she pull the whole lot down on her.

Walk around your whole house thinking about this one foot nothing powerhouse exploring every nook and cranny. You would be amazed at the changes you need to make.

There are a lot more things that others could also suggest but this is just the start for you

We crawled around the entire house. If we could reach it from this position, then the kids could.
These days (if/when grand kids come along) I will have to wear tilers knee pads before attempting to crawl around the house again, and by looks first stop will be the foyer.

Good Lord, she's nearly one already. That time has just flown

Sounds like wonderful plans and happy birthday to your mum!

I feel older but not because of daughter. Wrinkles never bothered me. I was already losing my hair which is a good thing as daughter can't pull my hair.

Anyone know a good human rights lawyer?

I am keen to explore the possibility of taking successive Victorian State Governments to the United Nations for breach of basic human rights for the continued failure to provide even the most rudimentary functioning road system around Melbourne. Sadly even a win won't result in the sort of punishment I'd hope for the incompetent, half witted, dunderheads that are our state politicians. In more enlightened times they would have been hanged, drawn and quartered.

:p:p:p

I assume almost everybody rcvd the Qantas / TorFX email this morn? Their comm rates are reasonably competitive and they will price match so no lose situation. I will prolly give them a run this aft.
