AMEX has announced that holders of the Qantas AMEX Ultimate Card will get a $450 travel credit each year (replacing the current free flight).

Still waiting on confirmation for the exact T&Cs for this perk, but I think it will be more valuable than the current free flight, which is only between selected capital cities.

100,000 bonus points is available until 2 October 2017.

More info here (will update as further T&Cs come to hand):

*Note: On 31 October 2017, the complimentary domestic flight will be replaced with a $450 Travel Credit. The Travel Credit can be redeemed for any eligible Qantas flight booked and paid online through American Express Travel in a single booking. The Travel Credit will be available each year of Card Membership, as long as you have paid the annual fee and your account is current and in good standing.

I wonder if that means it will be a statement credit when booking the flight.

The official Amex site still shows the free flight as does the link in that article.

The travel credit is mentioned there - you need to scroll down to the "travel" section.

It will be redeemable online through Amex Travel - like the travel credits that come with other cards (eg Explorer).

So does the travel credit apply to all current cardholders as well? My better half and were approved last week via the partner 100k bonus offer and are still awaiting our cards, the annual fee was worth the bonus points but we were going to try and utilize the flights - however, the travel credits will be much more beneficial if available to us!

Yes the free flight will be replaced by the travel credit for all Ultimate cardholders on 31 October :)

I like this a lot more than the current selected cities free flight.
I travel a lot from SYD - PER so will help with that!

It's not clear but does having a corporate amex account disqualify you from the 100k bonus points?

I've confirmed a couple of T&Cs regarding the new $450 Travel Credit:
- it can be used for any "eligible" Qantas flight, which is any flight with a QF flight number
- you won't need to spend money with Qantas to trigger the credit - cardholders will be entitled to it after paying the annual fee each year.

Applied last Saturday & received my card yesterday which I was pretty impressed by as I live in country WA.

As well as talking about the Travel Credit they also mentioned a couple of new benefits.

1) 2 Qantas Club Lounge invitations after your first spend on selected Qantas products/services.
2) Complimentary Qantas Epicure Premium Membership. Earn rate is 3 points per $1 in addition to the usual 1.5 points per $1.

That's interesting - are you able to post a photo of this letter so I can confirm with AMEX?

This will be a major downgrade for those of us in Perth.

The official Amex site still shows the free flight as does the link in that article.

Being a Perthite I'm not sure it will be such a downgrade. IME you can nab PER<>East Coast flights for $200~220, doing it this way allows you to select your desired fare class and travel whenever, etc. Plus can now use to more destinations.

P.S. The referral offer has now been updated to 100k, so if you're considering applying, please use a link to grant a 30k bonus to an AFF'er: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....s/qantas-ultimate-amex-100k-points-84256.html

I received my card last week and no mention of Qantas Club invites.
I haven't seen any evidence of this just yet either. I thought it was only the Premium that had the invites.
