Just flew back to BNE via SIN with EK yesterday on EK432, to be surprised at check in that the EK Lounge at SIN was closed for renovations.

So I went looking to find out more as to timing, as my disappointment of the Dnata Lounge is an understatement.

I found this link about it suggesting some time next month will be done and re-opened:

https://www.ausbt.com.au/emirates-to-close-singapore-lounge-to-april-2017-for-make-over

Dnata Lounge had limited alcohol options, 2 beers, 1 white, 1 red wine, no champagne, and 4 spirits - vodka being one. And food was light bites at best.

I did make myself a screw driver after scratching for anything I could accept - but needless to say, I boarded my flight very sober and was very thankful for the welcoming drinks tray for J PAX - as I had used miles a few days prior to to upgrade to J, and thankful I did - as I would have been more shirty about the situation.

I just really look forward to the EK Lounge experience in SIN on my way back. Lets just hope it is all open for late May for my next planned flight.

Fortunatley I was flying QF with my two recent visits - and in the evening so was able to escape to the BA lounge. (I don't really like the QF SIN lounge.

Sadly for EK PAX in First/Business they are directed to the QF lounge in the evenings while other eligible EK PAX are sent to the dnata lounge.

On EK432 12/04 in F sadly looks like the start of the return trip will be in the underwhelming dnata lounge. Possibly could sneak 30 mins in @ the QF lounge but not sure how far it is from the EK gate.

EK flights use "C" gates, yesterday we were at C15, but C20 or C22 are more common for EK432 in my experience.

EK check in at Terminal 1 is row 6, so if you go directly through Immigration directly behind row 6, for the Dnata Lounge one must turn Right and walk 10-20 meters prior to having the escalator to go up to it.

For the QF Lounge, along with "C" gates, they are to the left after passing through Immigration - and one will walk past the QF lounge escalator on the way from the Dnata Lounge on ones way to board at a "C" gate.

With EK432 scheduled departure of 3:15pm, so boarding starting at 2:45pm, and QF Lounge only opening at 2:30pm - past a flight delay, it would seem pointless to get hopes up on using it.

Was on EK432 on Wednesday night and was directed to the Dnata Lounge on check in. Huge let down. The first time i have seen my girlfriend cry in a lounge. I spoke to the lovely CSM on the flight about it and a few mins later we were served some champagne and those amazing chocolates from J class.

Emirates crew are amazing

The Dnata lounge was not that bad when I visited the lounge last month before afternoon EK flight to Brisbane.

Food was more than acceptable and more than enough variety of alcohol unless you are very fussy. Clean showers and toilets.

Emirates Lounge Singapore ?

With Emirates lounge closed in Singapore for renovations, what lounge are they using ? And can QF SG and above use it?

Re: Emirates Lounge Singapore ?

Qantas Singapore lounge is in use. It's busy as a result!

Depends on which EK flight. If reaching the lounge after about 8pm it's not so busy after the 3 early evening flights to Australia depart.

Re: Emirates Lounge Singapore ?

I had this reply to my enquiry with EK a week ago. I wanted to make sure that they were on "schedule" for an April re-opening since we want to access their lounge first week of May.

We hope to reopen our Singapore Lounge by mid-April; this depends on its refurbishment works. In the meantime, eligible customers are welcome to use the Dnata and Qantas lounges. Let me know if you have other questions.Best regards,xx_xx_XX, Emirates Social Media Team

Post from another thread:
I don't believe this was answered earlier, but it appears the answer is 'yes'. Here's the one news item I could find that talks to it...

[Eligible] travellers ... will have complimentary access to the new facility, which now has the capacity to accommodate 222 people, up from 179 people before the refurbishment.

I'm looking forward to comparing the QF lounge to the EK lounge in June. Shame I can't also check out the other oneworld lounges as I'm on EK-metal.

Got to use the new lounge today for the first time.

All the older staff remembered me, my preferences, and reinforced my love for it - even though was 13 months since my last visit.

On asking my favorite staff who fuss over me - I was informed that the lounge staff were without work or income for the period the lounge was closed for renovations - and had to seek other part time and casual work to gain some kind of income during the closure which made me sad to hear and a little unhappy.

Yep. That is what things are like in this company friendly city state. Screw your staff as much as you can. Western companies don't get away with it quite so much due to pressure from home and activist shareholders and the like regarding human rights, but for the rest, including ME companies and their contractors who gives a toss about the small people? (nb sarcasm intended, this last statement does not reflect a view that this is any way right).

Does anyone know what time this lounge is opening currently in the afternoon/evening?.

I see Sunday had a 3:35pm flight then another at 9:40pm.

I was there at 18:30 last month (mid June). It was quiet but clearly had been already open for a while. Has EK changed their SIN schedule?

I'll be flying SIN-MEL next month in QF Y, on the late flight.

Will I be able to get access to this lounge as a WP? I've been in there many times in the past as a (lapsed) EK Gold.

Yes.

You can do both. The refurbished EK lounge is very nice. And I'd rate their food and beverage above QF. But better showers, Australian newspapers and having a QF service desk can mean the QF lounge has its attractions. The made-to-order dishes in the QF lounge can be pretty good too. And the lounge gets quiet later at night.

My tip: Start with EK for food and beverage then move to QF for showers, newspapers a late, freshly cooked, pre-flight snack.

On the late SIN-MEL flight, the Y-class service is a snack after take-off and a hot breakfast before arrival.

Thanks for that. I'll certainly give it a go.
