Collision at changi

Scoot and Emirates planes have minor collision.
Some information and photographs here. I can't find a news source that gives much information, but it appears that Scoot's TZ188 bound for Tianjin (normally operated by a B788/9) was taxiing and encountered EK405, an A388 leaving for DBX, pushing back.

Photographs show some damage to the A380's "winglet" which could probably be fixed with a little ducttape, and some major cuts and abrasions to the Dreamliner, with large chunks of material swinging in the air. It looks to me that the bottom of the wing-end-fin-thing (do they have a name, anyone know?) scraped across the top of the Dreamliner's wing, penetrating it and ripping off bits.

It looks trivial, a carpark scrape, but given that wings are where the fuel is stored, and both planes were presumably fully fuelled for lengthy flights, this could have been a disaster.

And, on the nerdish side, this is a bloody good reason for making a video of the tailcam feed. I can just imagine Emirates with their dashcam copy arguing their case for massive compensation. (Or alternatively, depending on who was reversing without using the rearview, claiming that the camera was faulty and no usable footage had been recovered. Sorry.)

The A380 wingtip device is called a wingtip fence

It will all buff out and a bit of gaffe tape will fix what can not be buffed out

Most recent collisions have been wingtip to wingtip - ie. getting it slightly wrong.

This looks like wingtip fence to mid-wing.
How can you miss an A380 ???

I expect most are wingtip to tail.

Perhaps they mistook it for a building. You'd be amazed at just how many of the vehicles driving around airports seem to find the aircraft invisible. In recent memory, I've had a bus drive in front of me at LAX, and a ute at Dubai.

On the other hand, it may well be that the 380 was the at fault party. Apparently it was being pushed back...

With these accidents, does each airline typically get their lawyers to write to the other party and (initially) seek mediation? Or would it all be handled by transport insurance firms with whom both EK and SQ would have huge policies?

Or is it a case of all guns blazing and off to court - presumably in this case a Singaporean one?

Third parties being allegedly involved such as the company operating the tug if it was not Emirates DNata may complicate matters.

One assumes that any ATC directions would be integral to any legal case (or exchange of letters.)
