Take away food from lounge

I've never been handed one with the lid off or even loosened! In Sydney in the mornings, they just have them sitting on the counter too.

Usually they leave it on, but if they motion to undo it for me, I ask for them not to. In MEL its in the drinks fridge behind the counter.

IIRC the ADL VA lounge used to have paper bags near the sandwich toaster. I haven't seen any there for quite a while.
By providing bags, were they inviting you to make a take-a-way sandwich?

Yes.

I sometimes take a muffin or a few biscuit out for my two year old daughter to eat on the plane quite openly. Have never been stopped by the lounge dragons.

For adults I think you should not take things out of lounge at all.

I think perhaps you should re-read that statement in light of the grammar thread.

When (and where) would you like us to come visit?

Happy wandering

i did that at a hilton in chicago. i was embarrassed so i 'asked' nicely and the worker stared at me with a look of complete disbelief that anyone would ask such a ridiculous question. still glad i did ask because i would have felt ridiculous walking past her with a handful of food.
Pretty sure the worse Ive done is take a couple of bottles of water or cans of coke from the airport or hotel lounge.

My husband once did take a Hilton buffet plate (bacon sandwich) and brought it back to our room for me because I was sick with a sinus infection but he explained that to the staff who gave him some juice to give me as well.

Or this from the comments below the story: "I once saw a guy fill up a sports drinks bottle with whisky from the BA lounge at Heathrow. When he saw me watch him he just said cheers, finished filling it to the brim and then wandered off!"

No.

And this is when the airline start locking things behind cabinets. Wrong, dishonest, theft.

Is the lounge an advertised 'Take away' facility or not seems to be the answer to this question. Obviously if a lounge becomes a take away facility then they are going to have to cater for significantly more food than otherwise SO the patrons will have to pay more in the long term - and does it stop there? what about the odd bottle of wine too? Seems to me that this does not fit with the definition of an air terminal lounge, a place to relax, refresh and enjoyably spend any extended waiting time for a flight.

I was at The Bridge in HKG a couple of months back, and got chatting with one of the wonderful staff who noticed me looking at some of the artwork on the shelves. I wanted to slightly adjust the angle of one of the bears for a photo and realised they had been superglued in place.

Not unusual as I've seen that often in some hotels in China, but she explained they had done so as a "guest" had swiped one of the large plates (there is now only one) within the first couple of weeks of opening, and that it was also not at all unusual for other "guests" to fill plastic containers to the brim from the buffet.

I wasn't sure I'd heard correctly and asked if she meant more than one container, and she confirmed - 3 each; once filled, they placed in their plastic bags as they left the lounge. For the record, she commented they weren't western, and that it happens quite often. I got the impression they aren't at all impressed by it happening, but as she said, there really isn't much they can do to prevent it.

I have to confess to once taking quite a large number of little sausages off a breakfast buffet in Athens and walking around feeding them to the stray dogs - they just were so heart breaking.

On the whole I think taking a bottle of water or a few licorice all sorts is OK, although I don't do it myself, but to start helping yourself to alcohol etc is wrong. As others have said if costs get too high, then either quality goes down (free places), or prices go up.

One lounge I frequent provides takeaway coffee, so it is understood that you grab a cuppa and a cookie to go.
At another the barista said to take a handful of choccies with me and so I dutifully followed instruction. It was nice to be asked and the barista was thrilled with my being so overjoyed at the small gesture.
I enjoy those moments shared but am also fine with folks grabbing a water to go, a piece of fruit on the run, lollies to freshen the pallet on the plane, even a muffin to have with their refreshments on route and I certainly sympathise with the busy parent grabbing something because they're being strategic with time.
So I probably won't be judging people too harshly, enjoy your trip as long as it's not at the expense and misfortune of others.

ive been enjoying this thread and then i walked outside to water the front garden and some swine had pinched my hoselink fitting. cut the hose off, and took the whole fixture to the tap. amazed at what people see as an insignificant offence.

Think I'll take away a couple of noodle cups from SilverKris lounge in BKK as I don't feel like trying to get dinner in KUL tonight. Retail value ~26baht. Hope SQ don't go broke.

I guess he needed to wash down his take away meal.

The CP LAX club lounge is so small that once the all the seats are taken the waiter actually suggests to new guests they take a plate of food and a drink back to their room and come back and refill when necessary. Quite blown away the first time I experienced this.

Most I've ever taken was when travelling on a group tour I had access to a lounge when the group didn't. I took one guest in who wasn't feeling great and when we left we both grabbed a couple of tiny chip bags each and gave them to our group.

I'm not usually a big drinker or eater in lounges, rarely drink alcohol before a flight unless travelling with high ups from work (peer pressure!).

Not sure what I did that time was wrong. If I had stayed in the lounge I would have eaten something more substantial.

not wrong, IMHO because they make them obviously minute tiny nothing.they know a lot more about us than most of us know about each other... those tiny bags are like the lollies in a luftansa business class lounge.. i am happy for you to do that.. ( grrr..just wish that bloke hadnt stolen my hose fitting)
