Take away food from lounge

It's interesting how nearly everyone here is able to justify their own behaviour. :)

Most of us are familiar with the doggy bag concept and it popularity in the US for taking home leftovers off your own plate. At the buffet breakfast at the Hilton SFFD recently, I saw a number of people after their breakfast request a "doggy bag" or two, and fill them from the buffet with anything from salmon and cold cuts to bacon, scrambled eggs and pastries. Yogurts and fresh fruits were a bonus. In other words, two or three meals for the price of one. No wonder buffets often appear overpriced.

Taking of water, a few lollies, etc, are fine IMHO. As for "filling containers with food", still have never seen that after maybe 500 lounge visits. Maybe my blindness is because I just mind my own business? :)

The QR lounge at LHR offers take-away confectionery.
They also provide the containers.

The Doubletree in Amsterdam provide takeaway paper bags to fill with food at breakfast

Staff will fill them for you if you ask.

That's just rude.

I'll take a bottle of water from the fridge or a piece of fruit to eat, but that's where I draw the line.
I usually grab a water from the VA lounge to take on board but thats it.

On several occasions I've seen people with resealable sandwich bags loading up on liquorice allsorts/lollies and biscuits in the QC.
I admit taking teabags on a regular basis as I cant get green tea on-board in Y or if I think my hotel wont have it.

The odd banana from the hotel brekkie buffet after brekkie too. But never turned up with a Tupperware container.....

I've seen a lady pour a bowl of jaffas into her handbag in the lounge...

As does the AA flagship lounge there.

Pretty sure the worse Ive done is take a couple of bottles of water or cans of coke from the airport or hotel lounge.

My husband once did take a Hilton buffet plate (bacon sandwich) and brought it back to our room for me because I was sick with a sinus infection but he explained that to the staff who gave him some juice to give me as well.

I've taken a bottle or two of water for my sobering flight on JQ after the F-lounge experience, but never more than that. Not alcohol, full meal, etc...

Scratch that: A couple occasions I've taken a pre-made sandwich from the BNE J lounge, but they're pre-wrapped in the morning so I've always thought that was acceptable.

A bottle of water, or maybe something small seems OK. I've wrapped a croissant or something in a napkin when in a rush but the loading up of a water bottle with whiskey seems a bit much

Mind you, it also bugs me a little when people pile their plates up with food only to eat about 10% of it and abandon the rest. Just seems unnecessarily wasteful.

Yeah such a waste, it's the reason bowls and plates have become progressively smaller over the years at lounges.

I’m guilty of taking a bottle or two of water – especially for the long hauls, and maybe a “pre-wrapped” snack in case of the disappearing cabin crew syndrome.

Some years back on a “late night stroll” on a QFA380 to LHR, I watched a couple of “squirrels” unashamedly stack away into their pockets enough packets of cheese, biscuits, apples and pretzel things from the self- service bar to last a week. Perhaps they were low-cost travelling and hadn’t budgeted for food.

Hotel Jen offers take-away containers at their breakfast buffet and have a big sign inviting people to fill them up after their breakfast. I love filling up one container with muffins, tarts and pastries to take into the office whenever I am up in Brisbane. However, I don't take food from other hotels where they don't have this.

I do think this is a brilliant initiative by them and I stay more there than I do at other places purely because of the free breakfast and free lunch and free morning tea for the whole team. :) :)

About a month ago in the Sydney Hilton lounge watched a family fill up their water containers using 300ml Mount Franklin sparkling mineral water, the type that comes in glass bottles. I thought at the time it was a bit excessive as they had emptied around 6-7 bottles.

I have taken a piece of fruit and maybe a bottle of water and that is about it... a entire meal big NO

The few times I have been in a lounge I have enough trouble finding edible food there...let alone stealing some for later????

Both ways through Dubai recently I took a couple of the large and heavy Voss sparkling water to drink on the next sector. I didn't feel guilty about it.

.... and at the same time question why we are even having this discussion.

i.e. If it is not important to them it is not worth them a commenting.
I don't see the issue and why it's worthy of debate.

I eat 2 sandwiches in lounge or eat 1 sandwich in lounge and take 1 sandwich with me.

For crying out loud. It's not like they keep leftover food and salads for the next day.

I think yours is "one for the road" but the original post referred to a story of loading up for take away dinner at home. Quite different:)

Surely we all know confectionary & snack foods aren't food.... So that's pocket food....for the accompanying kids, including the adult kids, and

whats different about grabbing a lovely Vittoria coffee at QC and getting your flight called while still drinking it and leaving the lounge coffee in hand vs a half-drunk bottle of soft drink or fizzy water? Especially when the same is available on-board ? Just continues hot and cold running drinks rather than the Nullabor only every hour drink options

that said, no one would take a glass of alcoholic wine, beer or spirits on-board...
