I would have used it, head out not cost $50 for a q tag. Hubby made status and was sent two, and I thought great! I fly Qantas much more often than he does, I'll use one of those. But Qantas informed me they were non-transferable.

I loved these guys and used them whenever I could. There was something totemic about them.

I do wish QF could treat us like adults (shock! Horror!) and say they weren't being used and so they were on final call.

You can checkin on your phone and still use your card at the gate.
Same here. Check in early and choose your seat if needed. Card works perfectly at the gate.
And on topic I've never used one of the posts. While it is spinning it as an improvement it is fair to say that less clutter makes for a more pleasant experience.

I think you were informed incorrectly by someone at QF

I must admit that I've never checked in using one of those points. But I don't see how removing them is an "enhancement" (in the real world sense of the word).

Instead of pretending their removal is to improve the airport experience, why not just say that it's due to low uptake?

That's right, if you don't use them how can removing them change your experience. And it you do use them then removing them will degrade your experience.

Just PR B/S from Red Roo.

Never used them, never planning on it, but seriously is there someone at QF Marketing that hasn't read the memo about not using the "Enhanced" word...
At the QF lunch a couple of years ago, it was a common theme among the QF reps that "Enhanced" was never ever ever again to be used in marketing material, lest they want a 20 page thread on AFF on how "Enhanced" the QF flying experience has become / general ridicule.

The Q tags aren't linked to anyone, hence why you can buy them online.

They're definitely transferable and can be used by anyone - hence all those tags ending up for sale on eBay.

Who really cares about the posts in the check-in/baggage area. I much prefer either the machines outside the QP or Bus lounge or get either of the lounge dragons to check me in. Much easier for the HLO "I've arrived early, any chance of an earlier flight" spiel. It quite often works for me as I usually travel during non peak times.

I would have said the people who use them care about them regardless of the number.

Anyone remember David Whitehill introducing us to this next generation check-in technology not six years ago...?

'Is' or perhaps 'was' is more appropriate, is David Whitehill someone I should know ? or just an airline B grade celebrity.

I don't know why some people get uppity about this and call it a "lie" - all companies spin things as best they can, even with the dreaded "e" word - that's what PR and marketing is all about.

I think it's clear to most people this stuff is now old technology that's not used by many people anymore and it's infrastructure QF probably can do without. As others say one can check in online, via the app, at the kiosk, at the lounge, at a desk or just go to the gate. Lots of ways to do it.

When it was introduced it was a great idea but in technology terms it's just not how the majority of people work these days.

Yes, some posters here use them, and no doubt be sad to see it go, but is it really that much of an issue?

and calling the spin a lie is a bit rich I think. I don't quite see how it's a lie in any way. There are many reasons to bag QF but this? I don't quite see it.

just my 2 cents.

...... all companies spin things as best they can, even with the dreaded "e" word - that's what PR and marketing is all about.

I think that is the problem. Wouldn't it be amazing, in this case, if QF came out and said, "technology has moved on we are doing away with the kiosks" Simple and likely true.

It would make me feel that I was not being treated like an idiot. (Which, for an idiot like me, is a real bonus.)

I couldn't give a stuff whether the kiosks stay or go but as a grumpy old man I am sick to death of marketing bollocks.

Well I agree in principle but I guess those in control of such things get upset at the "optics" of that because it give a negative connotation ("removing" vs "enhanced").

Again I am all for being up front and honest in life. That's how I like to operate but in the real world..... or at least the world through the eyes of marketeers......

It's a bit like me wishing my ex would have told me for real why she broke up with me. Instead, she enhanced her personal situation :D

just to be pedantic, these are not the kiosks (ie: self check in units) that are going, but the QCard reader check in poles at most domestic QF terminals. they wouldn't accept your uber BA status card anyway :D

My preference to sit in an exit row. Unlike mobile check-in, the posts wouldn't allow you to check-in if seated in exit rows.

Stopped using them after discovering this.

Is anyone else having issues with Apple Wallet? I use it for Amex/ANZ cards but not for BPs. If I try to board using my iPhone, the phone seems to switch to the wallet as it's taken into proximity of the reader. Had a game of tag with the FA a couple of weeks ago as I returned the screen to the BP but it reverted to Wallet as passed under the reader.

I've resorted to using my card instead after checking-in on the mobile.

Regards,

BD
