re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

I'm flying PER-CBR on July 15 and returning July 17, planning a Points+Pay booking with 125,000 QFF points to use.

Trying to work on my SC balance, currently I'd get 60 SC for the return journey. Any tips for getting a better outcome? Happy to go via MEL or SYD.

The alternative of course is a J award booking, which is quite tempting.
I would value 125K QFF points at at least $2,500. You are better off buying a revenue Business fare - by connecting at MEL you can earn 120 SC's.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

According to the QF website, Points+Pay earns SCs:

That's correct, but is generally considered a poor use of points you get about 0.7c per dollar saved. Having said that, I've done P+P before when I've needed the SCs.

P+P is effectively paying for a cash seat using points and will book into a revenue class. A direct award flight (which costs fewer points) will utilise existing award inventory and not earn points / SC's.

DTW is in Detroit and does not come up on the calculator. It is 1927 miles, so should earn 20/40/80/120 for disc Y/Y/J/F respectively.

(If it was meant to be DFW - Dallas Ft Worth - then the earn is the same).

The table is here: https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/flying/partner-status-credits

Hi all
DO all AA tickets earn QF status credits.....

have not read the thread, but when I glanced and saw this, I cringed. The reason I discovered AFF was because I once managed to do a gazillion miles on AA and got ZERO SC or points with my QF FF account. Back then (not sure now) discount economy gets you NOTHING

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

ZIMZIM my experience so far has been a point to point sector shows up but a via doesn't - DTW to SEA by AA has one stop - so I have had to add in each sector on QF calculator which then provides the info

That's no longer the case. Discount Y on
AA ( O and Q) earns points and SC

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hmmmm that didn't work at all thanks MEL_Traveller. I managed to get Hipmunk to produce one of the ITA options. Unfortunately it was the one with a 6:15am start rather than my much preferred 8am start. Anyway after getting frustrated I've just booked it. What's a couple of hours less sleep!

For anyone interested - $794 AUD will net 290 status credits routing LGA-CLT-DFW-MSY-DCA-BOS.

Ironically this ends me where I need to go so an added bonus!

Sorry - I didn't read your post closely enough it seems. I see you already tried the multi city tool. What are the dates of your eventual itinerary?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

anyone here booked comfort seats with AA to gain QF Status credits or know if this method has any issues?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

an extra seat in first

QF is one of the few (only?) airlines offering additional points and SCs for a comfort seat. AA terms and conditions specifically exclude it: https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-program/terms-and-conditions.jsp

Mileage can only be accumulated one time per flight, regardless of the number of seats purchased.

I'm not sure how that works... whether the QF rules override AA's, or whether AA gets the final say.

I can image 'comfort' seats in F class in the USA causing all sorts of problems... not least from the vast amount of elites thinking they have missed out on an upgrade, or how it would be handled in the event of IRROPS.

This is a pretty sweet deal from QF. I'm not sure I'd be wanting to attract too much attention to it.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

This is a brutal itinerary, but as i see it earns 750 QFF status credits for just under AUD860 with current sales. Nearing the 1 aussie dollar per status credit!

YVR-PHX-SFO-LAX-CLT-MCO-MIA-PTY / PTY-MIA-EWR-DFW-YVR

All first class domestic except MCO-MIA, which is in business. International flights in business too. Sadly no lie flat sectors though.

Oh wow, this is pretty close to the realm of pre-fairer & simpler; well done!

Did you book it?

How are the connections? Are some of them very risky for misconnect?

Seems to be many itineraries going towards PTY as the turnaround. Using YVR as a base is a new one for me, and surprising given that often the Canadian cities don't yield good returns for money and often also have no First Class on them. That said, positioning to YVR will be interesting, though admittedly easier than positioning to HNL.

AA codeshares on AS are booked in F between Canada and the US. Having said that I think YVR-PHX is AA metal in J IIRC (I have flown this sector).

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Have tinkered a little more and think I am about to book this for November:

YVR-PHX-SFO-LAX-CLT-MCO-MIA-PTY / PTY-MIA-CLT-MSP-DFW-YVR

Yes Princess all AA metal and no American Eagle. No lie flats though. 1 night turnaround in PTY
Connections are 2:36 in PHX, 4:00 in SFO, 2:18 in LAX, 5:17 in CLT, 1:23 in MCO, 1:27 in MIA, then 1:58 in MIA, 0:58 in CLT, 5:25 in MSP, and 1:02 in DFW. Best balance I can find, but can always claim original routing credit if delays.
760 SC's, prices at a little more - $886 Aud via AA.com.

Toyed around with CLT-DFW via PWM and PHL increases it to 800 SC for about Aud 900, but requires overnight in PWM.
