Re: Lounge food STEW AGAIN !

....the place stunk of lamb stew. Seriously pissed off.....Qantas sort yourself out.....

whiteshark, I respect your right to your opinion, and clearly you do not like lamb stew.

But I don't mind it at all, and in my life of very frequent long distance flying, I ACTUALLY LOVE THE IDEA. My favorite item at most lounges is something hot - I don't care if it is summer or winter, but my body revolts at the prospect of yet another plastic cold meal arrangement. I am sick of cheese platters. I am sick of salmon. I am sick of all those "recognized" offerings it appears you crave. I am absolutely SICK of balsamic-f'n-vinegar.

I can't wait to try a hot lamb stew in a lounge. Please Qantas, don't "sort yourself out" as suggested.

And for the person claiming a Bolognese sauce should not have carrot - be careful to express such a specific and secure opinion when you are very clearly ignorant of the original recipe. Bolognese sauce is impossible to make without carrot. That is what gives it it's unique taste.

I agree re the mushrooms though. :)

Re: Lounge food STEW AGAIN !

No other hot choice and the place stunk of lamb stew. Seriously pissed off that someone hasn't rectified this since the last time i travelled using this lounge. Probably because there are so many people saying that its not that bad and they enjoy a good lamb stew. Well consider this Qantas, how wide spread is lamb stew on restaurants menus? it's not and for good reason, because it's not something people choose when given a choice.

While you may not like lamb stew, wish it was available last time I used the lounge, which was Saturday. (lamb shanks are on many menus and were once look down upon but now are not) Which the sandwich makers would be ditched, only veg options available least Friday in Sydney, no meat was out .

Re: Lounge food STEW AGAIN !

I would suggest that the lamb stew is an easy option for the lounge. As the International J Lounge is the base lounge for QF, you will probably find a limited amount of variety realistically.

Whilst the OP's disdain for the stew is noted, there are others who don't mind this type of filling food.

There's the problem... it's not really a J lounge - it's an economy class lounge catering for huge number of QC members and economy pax at gold status. Catering and beverages reflect that.

Business class pax get the raw prawn here :(

Better to call it a raw deal. A raw deal is something that you can have trouble dealing with. Raw prawn, on the other hand, can kill you. :)

I like Lamb Shanks too, they should not be compared and implied that they are on equal footing (with the pun) to the slop qantas serve up as food with a label of stew on it.

I also support your call for better food - its really not that hard, even pies and a side salad would have been better than that.

Feel sorry for you. I am the same when it comes to curries. Think the BNE and SYD lounges have had this lamb/beef curry every week the past 6-12 months. God awful stuff and cannot understand how anyone eats this slop regularly. Had some today in SYD business lounge as I was hungry. Managed to find a couple of pieces of meat in the oily curry stew. I would hate to think the calorie count for the small portion of meat that I had.

I was going to take a photo but then changed my mind.

I defer to the taste.com.au recipe for (amongst other recipes) bolognese sauce - it includes carrots AND mushrooms
Bolognese Sauce Recipe - Taste.com.au

I often think that the Int J lounge offering is better than F lounge as it has the buffet option.

Qantas lounge culinary standards are slipping below those of the chattering classes.

Time to take note Qantas.

We should all express our displeasure to management, this will effect some change I have no doubt.

You defer to a recipe that includes a tin of soup and stock cubes?

Can you get the raw prawn? I thought you can only "come the raw prawn". Or that's what Alf Stewart taught me as a very young boy before I had access to better television shows.

Re: Lounge food STEW AGAIN !

Nope. Never mushrooms in Ragu. English perversion recipe. You can add mushrooms but you can't call it "JohnKnese" but not "Bolognese".

And "Worcestershire sauce" !!! Mio Dio!
For some reason I cannot comprehend but the English love Worcestershire sauce although I don't mind it in bloody Mary's.

Mushrooms are an accepted part of bolognese sauce. Many variations in most recipes.

Nope. And "grated carrot."? Becoming food or nursing home or children.

Worcestershire sauce on toasted cheese is excellent though.

Na. You'd have to be a few sheep short in the top paddock to use "get".

Re: Lounge food STEW AGAIN !

You probably need to be a frequent flyer to see the variations. contrary to claims here there is actually a rotation of hot choice in the domestic J lounge - Red Curry, some beef stew, some other meat stew with a butter chicken recently being added. I'd bet that the lamb stew again was just an indication that you need to change weeks of travel to get a different rotation.

I love the red curry and the butter chicken - you can keep the stews. Not that I come the raw prawn over stew. I just ignore it and move on.

I started putting mushrooms into my bolognaise sauce when I was 16 or 17 years old. Tasted great.

Still put mushrooms into my bolognaise sauce 35 years later and it still tastes great.
You can put what you like in it but don't call it bolognaise sauce.
Maybe Mushroom sauce in the style of Bolognaise ...
