Hi everyone, apologies if this has been covered before. Is there a way I can find out if there are awards seats available on JAL without phoning the Qantas FF line? I am trying for two PE or J one-way tickets on JL772 for 4 Feb 2016 - Syd-Narita. JAL has just released that dates flights. I'm QF Gold and Mrs Pug is Silver with enough points for the flights; any tips appreciated.

sorry I meant 4 Feb 2017

I personally check by using JAL's own Mileage Bank search tool. You need to join but it's free. Much more convenient than calling QF.

Best ways to look for JL award seats are either on JL or BA sites. You need to subscribe to their FF programmes (it's free), find availability on your preferred dates and then call QF to book.

BA site is the most user friendly. JAL is more clunky and may show more availability to their own members.

thank you for the tip. I did sign up but it seems you can only book two months in advance using that tool. Secondly it uses Flash Player, which is plagued with security bugs and my browser will not support it! Looks like I need a call to good old Qantas.

thanks travelislife. I checked the BA website for its Executive Club but it said they don't have a ff club in Oz and referred me to QF! Do you have to join up as a resident elsewhere or am I missing somthing?

Go to BA site and click 'register now' on the top right hand corner. It's open to everyone.

1. For applying for a BA account just enter a fake British address Frequent flyer tip: buying British Airways Avios - Australian Business Traveller
2. In case you come up with an error while logging in to BA: How To Use British Airways Award Search Tool - One Mile at a Time
3. For a great time saving tool I use frequently: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....cussion/award-flights-new-ow-award-74032.html

You can use JAL's tool for any period of time. I just used it the other day for January next year. Though I do agree it's clunky.

Just put in a different postcode address, can't actually remember which one I used!

Thank you to everyone for the help and advice. I have registered on JAL but skipped BA. Decided to call Qantas FF centre and got a very helpful gentleman named Warren who scored me two awards tickets in J class on JL772 Sydney to Narita on 4 Feb 17, (for Mrs Pug and me). JAL had only released that flight this morning and Warren said there were 2 award seats in J and 3 in PE. Also managed to book our seats once the Qantas email came through so we are very happy. If RedRoo is on-line Warren needs a payrise! Our tour is the Hokkaido Winter Festivals and Snow Monkeys Tour arranged by Destination Management/Tours Gallery in Brisbane, which we are looking forward to. Might do a tour review for AFF as we go along or when we get home. First time using this company so fingers crossed.

Ah... I finally found this now. So I registered, but still couldn't find reward seat search, but it had an option to "convert this to Executive club for free". It accepted my address, but it wasn't until later I realised the country was "Austria". Will this be a problem? I can do reward seat searches now.

No, and if you manage to get status on BA & need the card, the mail has even managed to get through for some as long as you have the correct state and postcode details in your account - even with the wrong country.
