Woolworths backflips - QF points are coming back

Phone brightness is aparrently the culprit.

And the type of scanner.
Work at my Woolworths and Guzman, but not Coles autocheckout

Why did the scanning of my card not work at the check-out?
Some stores still use outdated scanning technologies, such as laser or flatbed scanners, instead of the more modern image scanners.

I've come across the odd store (WOW) where they still have older scanners and they have to type the number in manually.

Re: Woolworths reviewing partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

Sure, I'll ask.
How do you get triple points?

It was in the email from woolies - to celebrate between now and the end of this year we get triple QFF

It sounded like a good 'backflip' but really it's a different scheme. Miss Albatross prefers to first choose between Coles & Woolies as to where to shop. If there is a deal after this, then we take advantage of it.

From a consumer behaviour point of view, it takes a higher incentive to change peoples' behaviours than it does to maintain them. So while the current offer of the 10 for 870 looks interesting, it can only decline over time. Expect less ways to earn the WOW dollars over time.

We've seen this before where large corporate wants to refashion the costly loyalty program. Think about the Westpac introduction of the Krisflyer co-brand card which benefits declines each year. We can't stop the tide, they will simply work the PR to make it look like they are responding meanwhile working the IT levers to ensure consumers get the absolute minimum.

Sadly, I'm a WOW shareholder. :(

I'm still not carrying the EDR card until I'm convinced it is worth my mental toil.

Re: Woolworths reviewing partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

How do you do that? Top up Opal at WW?

That is/was the plan. Gotta find a WW that does opal.

Opal is now excluded from targeted offers and many other offers at Woolworths.

Woolworths dollars should show up instantly on your account. You can only redeem in $10 amounts. Check your docket just in case you've bought one of the excluded items or services. There are lots of exclusions now compared with a few months ago.

Not sure how it is excluded, as per the T&Cs listed below. Opal is a purchase not a gift card. But caveat based on my comments below in reply to Moa999

Had a look at the T&Cs, says nothing about Opal being an exclusion (unless it is a "gift card")?
15.4 Eligible Shop means any transaction at a Participating Woolworths Group business in which you spend at least $10.00 excluding any Excluded Purchases.
15.5 Excluded Purchases means the excluded purchases specified in clause 4.2.1.7 of these Terms and Conditions.

4.2.1.7 Eligible Shop excludes the following purchases in respect of the various Participating Woolworths Group businesses as follows:
1. Woolworths supermarkets in store and online: Smoking/Tobacco products and accessories, Gift Cards, Cash Outs, Home Delivery Charges and Internet Cafes;

2. BWS stores: Smoking/Tobacco products and accessories, Cash Outs and Gift Cards.

Although it does say it may take 72 hours for any WW dollars to show up on your account.

I definitely did not buy any excluded items. All food.
That's best that I can find. Interested in where you saw that Opal top-ups are excluded?

As per gift cards for any non-WoW group retailer, Opal is a purchase. the only gift cards that have previously been excluded are WoW group cards that would then allow double earning when using the gift card. That is not going to happen for gift cards for external parties.

I think however Opal is processed in the same way as gift cards - it certainly hasn't worked for me in the last few months

I last got QFF points for a $55 purchase including Opal on 23 November. didn't get QFF point on a $43 -WWR$10 purchase on 9 December, yet. The new activity statement no longer lists QFF points against the earning transaction only against the transfer to QFF. Not expecting those 3 points now - but a transfer still might happen. Also possible that the -WWR$10 automatically excludes QFF point earning, somehow.

However I tried to get WWR $$ buy topping up Opal and it did not work. :-(

I do get FF pts though!

I will top up and get triple points!

I would never expect Opal to be an orange ticket item. But as it does/did earn QFF points I expect/ed it to count towards any spend requirement for offers.

Not so sure of the situation now but it is only an issue until 31 December.

Re: Woolworths reviewing partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

No, that's incorrect. The operator tells you that you have $10 available. You then have to tell them to use it. They then do something to the screen and the $10 gets applied to the shop.

(for the second time)

I've gotten two lots of $10 discounts so far and not been asked about either. I haven't seen the operator do anything to the screen but wasn't paying attention. Will have another $10 off next week and see what happens then.

Re: Woolworths reviewing partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

Another point to note, SWMBO had WWR$20 saved up and was able to apply that discount to one shop. So it is possible to use more than $10 at a time.

It would seem I was wrong. I can't explain my experience. But it doesn't match the manual so I can only accept that I was wrong.

"Qualifying amount must be spent in a single transaction, and excludes BWS, liquor, smoking/tobacco products, gift cards, recharge, WOW Connect, tickets (bus, train, state based travel cards such as Opal etc) and Carpet Care. Offer not available at Woolworths supermarkets in Tasmania and Woolworths online."

This is the fine print on one of the targeted offers I had recently where I had to spend a certain amount to get $10 added to my account for my next purchase. It appears however that the either terms and conditions can change from offer to offer or possibly that Woolworths have written the wrong terms on some of the offers.

Check to see if you store does it.

Some do some don't

Sorry, just to clarify - are you saying that if you top up your opal card at WOW via EDR, you get QFF points? If this is true, it will change my life :)

You've missed the boat. QFF points for spend ends 31 December. And there are many indications it has ended already.

Alas. We've been enthusiastic EDR people previously, but when I got my Opal card a few years ago, I just set up automatic top up on my credit card. Never mind...

you could try popping a few hundred on it before the end of year. I'm kinda not unhappy about this change. Rather inconvenient to go to a Woolies when I need credit.

Re: Woolworths reviewing partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer.

My simple solution has been to stop shopping at Woolworths.

Basically points are gone at most WW group stores and if you want points at Woolies you need to buy the WW money items to convert later.

which group stores? DSE went a long time ago but you can still get points at Big W and Cellarmasters. AFAIK you couldn't earn anywhere else like Dan's or Masters.

Except when Amex had the 5 bonus points deal at Vintage Cellars. Only needed $23k odd spend for a Euro J return at the time.

I see Australian Business Traveller has plagiarised this thread title for their own headline today, "Woolworths backflips on Qantas points". OK it is not the whole 9 yards, but lazy journalism imo.

Points are gone at BigW, Cellarmasters, Caltex this New Year, leaving WW.

Then you should hold the journalist to task via the letter to editor section. Shame, shame, shame...
