Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Re: Vinomofo Wine Deals

On recommendation I went for the Fox Gordon (sounds like Fox Hat as in "Wear the..."), the 12 bottle Halliday mix and what the hell I thought I'll get some Sieur D'Arques Aimery Grand Cuvee 1531 NV 6pack on spec. If it is no good they are always good for Chrisy presents. ;)

Beefarmer, don't feel like you're under pressure or your reputation is at stake. I've outlaid just $72 for 6 bottles. It's also worth noting that I've coped with the Glenlofty 2011 Chardonnay (sometimes I think it tastes better than others) although I have withheld it from friends. I'm sure we'll be welcoming The Empress with open arms.

No stress at all............

Dan Murphys current receipt deal (also available by scanning My Dan's card) is two for one Mt Langi Ghiran The Divide Shiraz 2013 @ $21.90. This wine sits between Billi Billi and Cliff Edge and appears to be made for WW though is available from the cellar door. Tried it last night and it was ok (I prefer McLaren Vale shiraz) - will try it again tonight. Those that like cool climate shiraz should enjoy it.

Halliday gave it an 89, so I'm a bit wary. Top score seems to be a 94. Seems like there's many other drops out there for $30 bottle that are less risky...

I scored a case of 2013 Leconfield Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon from WD for $220 a dozen as a "secret offer" which is pretty good. Haven't had a bad vintage of Leconfield. WD only have one Coonawarra Cabernet on their site, so didn't take a genius to figure out :p

the drankster has some seriously good prose to read.

Roy Morgan Research this week confirmed that the Woolworths' chain, Dan Murphy’s, is Australia's leader in market share and total customer numbers in the ethanol-dealing business.

This comes as little surprise to those of us who live with our noses to the winestone. Hungry Dan's is in your face. Some hacks in this racket get to thinking Woolworths IS the bloody winestone. [Note to self: write song for next band: The Ballad Of Hungry Dan and Winestone Woolie.]

But the burgeoning reach of this giant dealer is breathtaking. 1.2 million -- 23.9% of total ethanol-buyers -- attend Dan Murphy’s each week. Add that to the 1.1 million who attend Woolworths' BWS ethanol chain -- the silversleeve second to Dan's silvertail -- and you get 2.3 million. Only 1.8 million Australians make it to church each week, for Christ's sake, and I'm doubting that lot tithes anything like the $48 the average BWS convert puts in the Woolworths plate. The Hungry Dans' congregation tips in $68 per head per week -- $7 more than the national average.

To me, this indicates volume more than quality.

At $26.67 per bottle are you getting a good deal on the 6 or simply paying for the magnum?

It's closer to $23 a bottle with all of the available discounts. This is the standard 'on special' price for items like the Wolf Blass and the Penfolds BIN 2. So would make the magnum, which I'd value at $50 (although DM's value at $70) free.

Fairly good deal.

With the discounts I have, it works out to be $22.57 per bottle. 5% WISH gift card and then 10.35% cashback through my company scheme.

Cellarmasters have 30% off site-wide with BLACKFRIDAY coupon code today. They have so much of their own-brand stuff it's usually pretty uninspiring to browse the site, and I can't be bothered trawling through it all, but one thing I did notice is they have Nugan Estate Manuka Grove Vineyard Durif 2010 at $19.99/bottle in dozens, which is $14/bottle after 30% off (well, plus a bit for shipping). That's a nice wine and if I didn't already have a few of those tucked away I'd be into that.

Using that code, and my cashback website at 9%, gets Veuve down to $38.xx per bottle.

Bleasdale Generations Shiraz also a decent buy with the discount. Comes down to a roughly $15/bottle before cashback.
Premium Mystery Shiraz 2012

Unfortunately its now listed as sold out. I smell a rat as the same thing happened last time there was a discount code.
