Vinomofo Wine Deals

I'm interested in the recent positive feedback for VM customer service posted on this thread. It's two weeks since I advised them of a wine I wished to return and still nothing has happened. Apparently it's the couriers fault as they are too busy to pick up the case and VM won't refund me until they receive it back at HQ. Any decent retailer would have just cut their losses and processed the refund I reckon. Don't think I will ever buy from them again.

You don't need to wait till VM receive it back at HQ - you can get them to refund you as soon as the courier picks it up. Otherwise you might be waiting a long time. Unfortunately, I think the courier company being too busy to pick it up is pretty poor, but I don't know what VM can do about that.

Perhaps use a different courier company or just process a refund and let me dispose of the wine? Would have saved them one more customer.....

If this is an example of a wine that is nothing spectacular, and I do like your tasting notes , give me an idea of your recent superstar wines that you could compare with this Shiraz.

Sadly not much recently. I’ve been out of the game for a number of years. Firstly due to a serious illness (stroke) and secondly when my house, and more importantly my cellar, got burnt to the ground. So I am slowly starting the painstaking process of rebuilding (the cellar not the house). I have only started re-purchasing wine over the last 3 months, and have secured about 15 dozen bottles to date, mostly from a recent trip to the Hunter. Sadly not much Shiraz yet, I seem to have a disproportionate amount of Chardonnay, and I’m not a huge Chardonnay fan (don’t ask!). However I did enjoy the First Creek Reserve Shiraz and the Thomas Allen “Alasdair” Shiraz, both nice earthy Hunter Shriaz’s. Again, not spectacular, but very competent wines.

Don’t get me wrong. The Ironrock is a very nice Shriaz and certainly a steal for $25 a bottle. I hope my notes reflect this. But in my taste memory I am comparing it against wines like the Rockford Basket Press Shiraz, or Grant Burge Meshach which were the mainstays of my lost cellar. Unfortunately my disposable income is not as high these days as it was 10-20 years ago, so I can’t buy these wines like candy any more.

I am greatly enjoying my recent membership to VinoMofo, and am buying quite a few mixed mystery cartons and getting to try wines that I might otherwise never have sampled. Great fun.

That's what I would expect to happen - the same courier that would collect the wine delivers our wine around 6.30am and leaves it by the front door. The problem is that, according to VM, the courier is too busy to collect the wine even though they delivered a case to our place late last week (i.e. a week after I had requested the return). This is why I will be shopping at Dan Murphy's more in the future.

Frankly, I don't think they care enough about one customer to change courier companies. And they probably have processes to stop stock losses/shrinkage that prevents issuing refunds without stock returned. I've never heard of a retailer refunding without getting the stock back - you should see what online IT companies are like - you can wait months for a refund - even if you never got the stock in the first place, let alone if it were faulty.

I just got my broker to handle the return - the only thing he actually did for me :)

I took a bottle to a friends place last weekend and was embarrassed by it. Just didnt stack up against French examples at the same price point.
 
Returned that Tomich Reserve rubbish and with the money drove down to Home Hill and picked me up some Jimmy Watson winning Kelly's Reserve :)

Have you ever bought from Grays? They have let me dispose of the wine in the past with a full refund.
 
IMnsHO , the refund policy of the 'Fo is unnecessarily generous.
The substantial cost of endless I don't like it refunds would be better spent offering better deals.
The kind of buyers who return on a whim , likely have little loyalty, and are no great loss.
Maybe a box per quarter and after that you are on you own…..

I also seems to me that there has been insufficient interest in rewarding loyalty and too much emphasis on volume.
This model leads to a race to the bottom, a well populated area…...

In my case it was a rubbish wine and the first time I've returned a case to them so I think your comments are way off the mark.

Interesting. I've never bought wine from them. Isn't most of it sold 'as is' and they don't do refunds at all? Is it their standard policy to not require returns?

Edit: Out of interest what are you trying to return? Might be worth avoiding for the rest of us :)

Good to see that you are more than getting into the swing again. Keep reading this forum and there will be many a good tip to follow. It's time you bought some king of the grape Cabernet and leave the Chardies for the time being. Looking forward to your impressive reviews.

Mine went a while ago Rocket. What offensive vile rubbish that was. The shame of them to bring that cough to market. Thankfully, VM credit policy works out in the end.

Methinks you are taking this too personally, this seems to me a general comment rather than specifically aimed at you!

Some decent points in there tgh, however I'd argue that without the (admittedly generous) refund policy, VM wouldn't really have a business. Apart from describing and then revealing a few facts about each wine, they are essentially selling (via the black market/contraband/secret deals) unlabelled wine, just like Dan Murphys, Aldi etc do with cleanskins.

Of course customers can value-add by researching (god bless this thread), but I think good proportion of VM customers buy without knowing remotely what label they'll get. You NEED a good return policy in that case, otherwise as you say it's "a race to the bottom". Or maybe VM have inevitably been heading there as more jump onboard...
