The St George was the only one I was interested in, so I haven't bit the bullet on this one. I guess they are using the code to clear out existing stock to make way for the next good deals.

Some of you may know from my recent post on the VinoMofo thread that I made a non-Fo purchase that I was getting exciting about yesterday.

I only got home from the drizzly rain tonight to be welcomed by this:



That is seriously good service when compared against many of my recent experiences with VinoMofo, MyWineGuy, Grays, Dan Murphys and WineMarket. I literally placed the order yesterday lunchtime and its on my doorstep the next day. Very impressed. And not only that - the delivery (the super fast deliver) was included in the price of the wines (if you spend over $250 in one purchase).

I have been asked 5 times overnight what I had purchased in my mystery 97 point pack to get 12 wines of 97 points (JH) for an average of $31 a bottle delivered. I am happy to say they are:



4 x Paxton Jones Block Shiraz (2012) = $119.80
3 x Clonakilla O'Riada Shiraz (2014) = $107.85
3 x Bicknell fc Pinot Noir (2013) = $116.85
2 x Rosemount Traditional Red (2012) = $29.90

Some of you conjectured I must have had some Rieslings and the like in there to keep the price that reasonable. I didn't. On this occasion, I stuck to my usual taste profile of going for the reds. I love the Paxton, as I have mentioned on the VinoMofo thread a number of times. It belies its age and price for what you get. My business partner recently had the O'Riada and really rated it. And I was looking for a good Pinot Noir in the $30 range and couldn't resist the Rosemount based on the descriptions and ridiculous price (for that description). The last two I went in blind, so I only got three and two (on the basis if they were great, then I would be going back for more).

I am currently sipping away on the Pinot, and can confirm it's a very nice wine. It's still playing hard to get so I will keep my powder dry and report back on the Nice Wines thread, suffice to say it's pretty classy but fairly understated (at least from the first drops).

Why do I say all this? Well:

a. I want to give a warm endorsement to my fellow wine enthusiasts for MyCellars.com.au. They have some great deals, especially focussed on the JH high rated wines in the affordable category, and first class delivery service;

b. Some of you may be interested to see the 97 point pack I assembled; and

c. They have just re-stocked on the Paxton Jones Block 12, so there is plenty more to go around!

And. I love their strapline: "Buying [good] wine has never been easier"

So true.

Yeah, small merchant, one of the good guys though. Consistently good service as well as a good range at often sharp prices. They will send via Aus Post if you have issues with Fastway in your area (like I have).
Their new web site has progressed a little, will still be a while though.

Have used them myself in the past - highly recommend them - as you say very fast delivery and as I did not buy over $250 I still only paid about $10 for delivery. Also they stock good quality wines

But the Colesworth duopoly model has enough holes that smart niche players can do quite well, Nicks, Boccaccio, Winestar, Nillumbik Cellars/WineListAustralia/ANZ Wines, Different Drop, North Sydney Cellars, Bonds Corner and a few others are doing quite well because they have found their niche and are good at it.

My experience with MyCellars has also been favourable over several years. Wozza, like you, I purchased the Rosemount and Paxton Jones Block and have procrastinated over the Bicknel Pinot more than once. Please avail us of your considered opinion of the pinot when you've had an opportunity to re-visit it.
I also recently bought the S.C. Pannell Syrah and Field Street Shiraz from here too as it was cheaper than cellar door, and freighted free.

Agreed. And we could add the emerging supermarkets with their global buying powers, including CostCo and Aldi that have each had a fair number of mentions on this thread. I haven't tried either of them yet, but am tempted, especially by the European plonk (although I don't have enough knowledge or credit card courage to take punts when I don't know their European providence).

Although I have come across a number of these smaller Aussie players, some are new to me, so thanks for widening the net, RedBigot.

re Winemarket delivery, unless it changed in the past 6-12 months it's woefully slow, even in major cities. Always has been.

I ordered mine Wednesday lunch time and it was delivered to regional NSW on Tuesday morning. I'm pretty happy with that.

Ugh, DM is shockingly bad with representing vintages accurately for 'current' stock. I'd definitely be sending the 2014 back myself.

It's delivery only so they should know the vintage correctly.
