Hi Guys,

Wanted to see if anyone had any luck with Qantas status matching VA Platinum? I'd be happy even if they gave me Gold

Thanks!

QF doesn't do status matches at all really. Only heard of a couple of members here getting it. None recently, none from VA and those that have been matched its been due to large corporate decisions.

EDIT: I think a few people received comp Gold when QF resumed flights to OOL

Without being too harsh - good luck, but don't get your hopes up.

That wasn't too harsh. I'll give them a call and give it a go, wanting to move some of my travel over to them. The lack of real star alliance membership with Velocity is annoying....

Just as an aside: Virgin does not want to join *A.
I dared to write to John B about why not DJ (at that time) join *A.
He said it was not in the planning or something like that.
He wrote back personally by paper letter.
Lost the letter though.
Would have been great if VA now consider it.

I'd like to go the other way, but only because I have two VA flights this month and can't bear to be outside of a lounge :p

Also, coughpy seat selection ;)

Very close to zero chance. A guy I know is VA Platinum and OW Emerald with AA and clocks up the equivalent of about 2000 QF SC's each year with each. He asked and got a negative response. I think it's basically only ever done for corporate accounts and very rare special cases.

If he's OWE why did he even want a status match with QF?

I've been after this for months (with gold) and no luck...

Hopefully you have a better outcome though!

It's a pretty niche reason, but I can't think of any other advantage he wouldn't already have as OWE.

Because he wants to get LTG I believe as he has moved back to Australia so wants to start earning with QF.

He can use his existing membership to gain lounge access while crediting to QFF and building status, so at least in that scenario, it's not a problem. Though he wont get a status bonus on flights obviously.

Heard nothing back from VA about a status match. It is what I was expecting though, just in my dealings with them over the years I know things have slipped :p

If I were to try asking QF to status match with VA, how do I try? Best just to call the QFF service centre? Or is there an email address that anyone is aware of that I can send through my case and include my current activity details?

you will be wasting your time.

Samh004. I was wondering who did you direct your status match to VA to? Im considering this - even though i get indirect benefits on VA with my SQ status + Ethiad, I would like to have the VA platinum status instead of perhaps VA pilot Gold to truly compare QF to VA after my frustrations with QF recently. (check thread Bags Bags Bags ha!)

AFAIK VA are only offering status matches through their business program (Accelerate) at the moment.

I was disgusted (maybe should have realised/known better they must be happy with their market share or that they are making money this year) - I am VA Platinum and to status match me with Qantas they sent me on a Status Challenge - I had to get 400 MORE additional SC in 90 days to get Gold, or 700SC in 90 for QA Plat. This is despite me flying probably 50+ flights a year (unfortunately most of them short) and about two business class international flights a year.

I tried to reason (hahaha, shouldn't have wasted my time as the person I spoke to wasn't a decision maker) that 400SC in 90 days in on track for 1600 points a year - but got a brick wall.

I'll guess I'll stick to Virgin and fly Qantas only when it suits me - I only want it mainly for lounge access, I'm not going to fly Qantas for 90 days (that's probably on ave 18 flights in that period, without my lounge)...

Sorry I had to vent. And clearly it's best to do it in a bubble like this one :-D

It's a bit odd I agree, but your VA plat is as difficult to achieve as QF gold. Platinum and platinum on both carriers are not the same.
