I was disgusted (maybe should have realised/known better they must be happy with their market share or that they are making money this year) - I am VA Platinum and to status match me with Qantas they sent me on a Status Challenge - I had to get 400 MORE additional SC in 90 days to get Gold, or 700SC in 90 for QA Plat. This is despite me flying probably 50+ flights a year (unfortunately most of them short) and about two business class international flights a year.

I tried to reason (hahaha, shouldn't have wasted my time as the person I spoke to wasn't a decision maker) that 400SC in 90 days in on track for 1600 points a year - but got a brick wall.

I'll guess I'll stick to Virgin and fly Qantas only when it suits me - I only want it mainly for lounge access, I'm not going to fly Qantas for 90 days (that's probably on ave 18 flights in that period, without my lounge)...

Sorry I had to vent. And clearly it's best to do it in a bubble like this one :-D

A challenge is a challenge. However, if you have a long history of retaining WP with VA, perhaps providing this information to Qantas for their consideration. It may assist your status match.

Hi Gareth,

If the vast majority of your flights are domestic, why not purchase QC to cushion the blow until you achieve SG? There are various corporate schemes around which will lower the cost, plus you can generally salary sacrfice (or expense if Self Employed) the remainder if used for business purposes.

Regards,

BD
