New Terminal 4 MEL no more JQ Lounging?

Nothing to stop you visiting the Qantas lounge and then trekking down to T4 for your flight. Nothing except the time and inconvenience factors as so ably demonstrated by the changes to Sydney a year or two ago when the JetStar flights were kept in the far terminal while the Qantas flights were consolidated into another terminal.

Since bag drop only opens 2 hours before the scheduled departure time, in the case of SYD, how much of a pain would it be to drop bags, walk to the Qantas lounge and then make it back for your flight?

Here's some information from the Jetstar website: Melbourne: We're Moving!
[h=3]Access to the Qantas Club lounge[/h]Eligible passengers can still access the Qantas Club lounge in Terminal 1 before flying Jetstar. But please note, there will be no boarding announcements or flight information screens at the lounge to alert you of any updates or changes to your flight.

Real shame JQ flights won't be on the information screens.. Will create some stress.

...only if you choose to let it stress you...personal responsibility and planning plays a big part in how I travel stress free :)

Seems a bit silly. I can understand no audable announcements but disaplying the info on the monitors would seem an easy thing to do.

Maybe it's just a case of asking RedRoo nicely... Could you please arrange for JQ flights to appear on the PIDs?

There's a website out there, um let me see, I think it's melbourneairport.com.au that displays flight departure information. Can be accessed by anyone with a smartphone so shouldn't be too difficult to track Jetstar flights from QC even without information displaying on the the PIDs

Because relying on a third party source won't cause stress....

I'm still quite surprised that ten years on, QF still allow JQ passengers to use the lounge. I can see one day it will be to Business Class passengers (International flights) or One World Status (Gold/Plat) only and won't extend to QC purchased entry.

It was business; with the introduction of Jestar there was no lounge access available when travelling Jetstar for any SG or QP member. (CL and WP had anytime access.)

The Qantas group must have lost a significant amount of revenue with that because it was only a year or so before they permitted SG and QP lounge access before a Jetstar flight.

Anecdotal evidence suggests there have been cases where the FIDs within a lounge haven't been accurate either.

Correct. The announcements for JQ flights in the domestic lounge at Melbourne bear no resemblance to what is actually happening at the gate.

Quite a fair walk from MEL T1 to T4 if we don't get a "golf cart".
So what becomes of the empty space now vacating by JQ, the "tin shed" at the end of the most right hand side of dom secure zone at T1?
Will that zone be remodelled to be like the rest of MEL airport, and no long resemble a bus station?

Yay! Less crowded lounges!
Boo! No lounge when we fly JQ!
Yay! Less chaos at MEL T1 security

Could be worse I guess :)

I wonder if you will still be able to check in for JQ flights in the MEL QP. My guess is not and that it will be like SYD.

I'm still happy to use the QP in SYD as I find that it only takes about 5 minutes to get from there to the JQ gate but will be interested to see how long it takes in MEL. At least twice that I would guess and probably a much crazier security obstacle once you get there.

As for the monitors for JQ flights in the lounge....they appear to simply show the boarding time based on the planned departure time and not the actual. It's not unknown to to head to the JQ gate based on the monitors and find that the inbound flight hasn't even turned up. I wish they showed arrivals in the lounge then you could work it out for yourself. I can't imagine reaching T4 and then heading back to QP especially if you've already done it once to drop off luggage.

Flightaware for the most part is handy to be able to figure this out. JQ are fairly good at filing flight plans early enough for this to be useful.
