Winecompanion has the alcohol at 16.5%, so who knows which is correct!

Just did a search of this thread & that shows they have offered previous vintages of this before, so more confident that is what it is.

Re the Lion - I have not bought it but read earlier threads where it was liked and good value - someone said they thought if it was priced 30/35 it was a good price

There's a few people had their (mainly positive) opinions on it on this thread. I bought the Lion last time round. I was pretty impressed with it and thought it was great value for $15/bottle and my mates who tried it were pleasantly surprised too. There's some other reviews on vivino website too.
 
Any take on the 2013 Mt Barker Riesling? I was going to guess Capel Vale, but they don't list the 94 Halliday rating this time.

It's been a long wait but finally, the scores are in and this gem has just been awarded 94 points from Wine Showcase. A beautifully bright, single vineyard Mount Barker riesling, don’t you dare compare it to the ‘Under $10 Wines’ that you would find in the corner of your local bottle-o. Rich and complex, this white woos with orange blossom, followed by waves of lemon, lime and a mouthwatering, minerally palate. Finished off with a lip-puckering acidity that typifies the hallmarks of a classic, team this up with your favourite Asian dish

just back from cabrini Malvern...a zinfandel hey.....all I can say is that the churchview wines are not good...they are in fact exceptional. I have their chardonnay - incredible, my mate Ronnie says its the best he has ever had, I bought their French style gsm, which I liked but it came around maverick twins time so I had to refocus and get some views from the aff community, and quite possibly the pick of the lot, or at least close, their low alcohol 8% wild fermented Riesling. This stuff is simply ridiculous for the coin. I talk stunning when I summarize this Riesling. It's one I would gladly pay $25for. So to complete the set, I will view VM , ring by broker and see what happens.

the orange winery has had a few go thru recently. probably all the same supplier I am guessing?

I probably have had one or two zins in my life, and from chatting over the years about this unusual varietal, it seems west oz does the best. how would I know? I don't . but if churchview are involved, I'm in for something completely diferent.

the wine is like your eye dee, it's a rich barossan. I liked it, most folk liked it but a few reckon it was too sweet with no overall finesse. look, it aint worth 50, it's easily worth $25-$28. I've only had one as I thought it needed 3-4years away, but it is a bargain, no question. are others better out there for $15, hard to find. The next price level comes in about $20. Are there better $20-$22 from VM out there, certainly.

even the goddam_ label is allowed to be of by fifteen per cent I believe.
even this wine could have 14.99 per cent anythingyouwant in it and you wouldn't know if they didn't tell you.

I'd say your on the money Simulacrum. A Google search of the sentence that starts with "Rich & complex" will give you the answers :)

I think if the alc % is at 16.8 then you will definitely know about it, thats a boozy wine

BANG !!!!..............if you can't attend on a sunday, this is the next best thing in my view. In fact, it's the Church's view as well...........over and out
 
A few of us at work have now had 3 bottles of the Bleasdale Generations Shiraz 2012. We both had a fairly negative experience of the first two bottles tried separately (he wasn't enamoured by the taste; I thought it was nice but my bottle oxidised very quickly), and we were not blown away by the third bottle we shared with our staff for Friday night drinks. For us, it wasn't a 96 pointer, but we may have got unlucky with the ones we tried.

JH gave it a pretty good write up though, so I thought I would canvass your views.

Anybody else have a different experience?
 
That's looks to be a good match, Mrbotrytis (great name!).

I don't want 12 of these. If anybody works in Sydney CBD and wants to split a 12 pack, then happy to co-share ...

We'll have a review up on it shortly. But summary, great value and good party wines. Good introduction to each of the red varieties in that pack. I liked the Sangiovese the most out of the 6.

Haha that's my problem with a lot of these deals. My ideal number is 3 bottles and a dozen is far too much. I prefer variety over quantity. Usually I split a dozen with at least 3 other ppl to reduce the bottles. I'm based in Sydney and can organise case splits with other Sydney folks (I work at Martin Place so I'm reasonably assessable for bottle pickups). PM me if interested and we can exchange emails/details.

Oops, attention to detail is lacking on my part. I am going to have a dip at this wine with the $100 credit from last week. Will update post-taste!
