As I know I am going to get wanded I usually suggest to those behind me when in the priority lane to go through before me.Just courtesy.

MrsTMA now always pauses just after the scanner fiddling with her bag recovering and sorting things until they have chosen someone coming through the scanner behind her for the bomb scan check. Otherwise she 'always' gets selected. I've told her they always pick the ones less likely to be a problem and who won't whinge.:)

A couple of weeks ago, having re-entered the country I went through the whole procedure at the security point before the QF bus to the dom term.

Lap-top out of bag, belt and watch off, pockets cleared, but forgot shoes (that don't have any metal in them). Hip repl set off machine. Go back, shoes off, machine set off again. Get wanded, hip repl sets off wand. Allowed through. Ask why they don't have a scanner like int dep, collect all belongings, put LT back in bag, belt on (otherwise trousers would fall), shoes on, turn to go and get stopped by the residue person. Mutter darkly and get held just long enough to see bus doors closing.

Disclaimer: I don't own BHP, I was too greedy on a buy order - missed by 4 cents in 2005.

Disclaimer 2: I assumed,

The charts I put up for BHP perspective (a few posts above) were the US listing (which everyone else of course noticed but me...).

As the day wore on, I was thinking, "I know BHP has done poorly but not that badly, I'd better check. The timing looked about right for the peak but near 70% drop sounds too much."

Oops!

Here is the Australian version (ASX listing in AUD) below:

The latest 1 year (still not too flash but...
AUD BHP1 yr.jpg

And here is the long term
AUD BHP Long term.png

The long term graph for BHP tells a similar story but different scale to the USD listed version. It traded above AUD45 a couple of times, so at the moment it is down about 50% - still not too flash but not as bad as someone holding BHP in the US looking at close to 70% loss.

Also, I was a bit flippant saying both BHP and the AUD are hi beta bets on China Growth - it is really world growth. For a big chunk of the 2005 to 2015 China was at times 100% of world growth (other areas such as EU falling or close to zero matched off growth in other regions).

Going forward - China is unlikely to be equal to 100% of global growth. It is still very important but it is no longer the bull-in-the-china-shop (pun intended).

Not a TR in this section, I promise!

After a weekend of losses at the ice hockey, today I went Korean food shopping after I noticed a Japanese/Korean supermarket on my way to the hotel on the Skybus hotel shuttle.

A friend of mine who loves Korea & Korean food asked me to pick up some Korean chilli powder for her as she's having trouble sourcing it in Sydney.

Armed with a tweet with what I needed in Korean & English, I get directed to chilli paste. My friend has paste. I get some chilli powder that I think is Japanese.

Later I found another Asian supermarket & get directed to what turns out to be what my friend needed. Success!

Then I get back to my dorm & find that the guy in the bunk above me is Korean. Would have been handy to know that guy this morning.

Today I did a tour of Eithad Stadium which turned into a personalised tour.

If I'm not taking my new Estonian & Korean roommates on the City Circle tram tomorrow, I'm going to go on an MCG tour.

I just go around people who start taking out their cough only at the point of getting to the conveyor, if there is a space in front of them. Never been challenged. If I was I will simply reply "I'm ready to go, you're still F'ing around".

HBA got new security area a few months back. Still only 2 x-rays machines and therefore lines, however the lead-in benches (for unpacking and tray-ing) are very long and there is plenty of room next to them. Therefore the faffers muck about at the beginning part and maybe shuffle forward a bit. Meanwhile, a large gap opens up in front of them and there is no question about people going around them - everyone does it because its so obvious.

Always a breeze now; contrast with the prior configuration, also 2 machines, which had virtually no lead-in bench space and queues of over 60 people long were common.

How long can you hang onto something before claiming it for yourself?

Back in June I ordered a monitor off Dell. Initially I was told delivery would be in three days from order date. Then three became five, five became ten and after four weeks it eventually became delivery expected six weeks after date of order.

At this point I simply had enough of dealing with Dells oxymoron of a "customer care" team and instructed them to cancel my order and provide a refund. Which they didn't.

So lo and behold, mid August, a Dell monitor arrives at my front door. Then they contact me asking if I still wanted to cancel, I must've absolutely confused them when I stated it was already here, but I did want a refund as I no longer needed said monitor. I believe the call center is busily editing their scripted responses to accommodate such situations.

I agreed they could collect their monitor in its original unopened condition once I received the refund. The money has now been returned to me and it's been over one week and there is no contact about arranging collection...

How long do I give it before I consider having second monitor to use?

I see nothing wrong with going ahead of someone who is not ready to go through the security screening point, and similarly letting someone through if you happen to be slowing up things a bit. Obviously, you don't just shove people roughly out of the way.

Same rules of conduct as in golf - always call faster players through.

Did they ever say to you how you could give this spurious monitor back, i.e. now that you have received the refund?

More critically, is the expectation (either implied or explicit, by them and/or by you) that you or they will make the arrangements for cartage of the monitor?

Unfortunately, you may have to call them again.

They (being their very inconsistent and quite possibly uninformed) customer care team, have said "I have arranged for our collection team to call you and have order### booked in for pick up". That was in fact two weeks ago now.

No further emails or calls since then. I figure I'll give them six weeks also before making any more effort.
