I didn't prefer one over the other.
I began as a lover of the Cabernet, However the shiraz was a surprise package for me, it doesn't try to compete with or imitate the Barossa styles, it is a classy wine and whilst it carries a number of classic Shiraz characteristics, it has a certain something that makes it that little bit different.

yes, I know what you say about the fuller, fruitier barossan shirazes and they have their place. But the west ozzies have brought an elegance and finesse to their wines that allows the empirical essence of the wine to come thru. Sounds fancy but the western Australian producers have created wine with less clutter, certainly less oak and probably more acidity to give more freshness. I taste them all on their merits not really worrying where they come from but at the end of the day, there is night...oops, what I meant to say is a good wine is a good wine.
