Looking for seat allocation in March 2016. Cannot work out which aircraft is flying the two sectors. Anyone know the answer?

QF11/12 is daily 388 unless subbed out last minute.

As I understand it, QF11 is a 388 only as far as LAX, and then a 744 from LAX to JFK. If you search SYD-JFK, then you might have trouble with seat maps as the equipment changes mid-way, but should be ok if you separate them.

Exactly - you need to check JFK-LAX and LAX-SYD separately.

Having posted that, there are kown issues with seat allocation for those booked SYD/JFK on QF11/QF12 when the aircraft type changes at LAX.

Isn't JFK-SYD QF18 on 744 whereas QF12 is LAX-SYD on 388?

Not anymore. It's QF12 JFK-SYD now. JFK-LAX is a B744 and LAX-SYD is a A388. JFK-LAX is able to meet all LAX-AU flights under the new schedule, including QF96.

??
It was QF11 SYD-JFK and QF18 JFK-SYD after the last round of changes and renumbering of 107/108. Did they change it again with the SFO/AA SYD stuff?

Yes, it was changed with the SFO/AA SYD changes. JFK-LAX now meets QF12 LAX-SYD (well rather, they pushed that back a little) and so that allowed them to use QF12 all the way through with the A380 on SYD-LAX vv. which is better than only having the A380 for one direction from SYD when MEL had the A380 both ways.

Spot on. Our (May 16) QF18 changed to QF12 and came forward by 35mins weeks ago, QF16 also came froward by 25mins.

I was just notified that JFK - LAX - SYD on QF 12 is now a refurb 747. But, I still seem to have the original seat 15K on LAX-SYD (but am hoping for 14K), in May, how is it so? Have only done F on A380 before.

What sort of bed would this be, and do I still get a RH side locker? Does J give out PJs or do I need to bring my own?

If you are in a refurbed 747 then the beds are identical to the ones in the A380 in J. i.e. flat not angled. Obviously not as nice as F. You should still get PJs. 15 on the 747 means you are upstairs, which personally I prefer, but there are two schools of thought - nose vs upstairs.

Thanks. Yes, the QF email did say that it's refurbed. It is a Tuesday, so no F apparently according to a recent article - is that correct? I do like upstairs and in the old config in J I always got row 16 with heaps of room in front due to crew seating and exit row, so no need to worry the other seat person. I do like the side locker and make good use of. Does downstairs have side lockers?

Just looked at the seat plan for downstairs nose and row 3 seems to have a lot of space in front of it.

And serfty, row 5 is not available, I remember you said you like that one.

They have taken one A380 and are doing DFW daily which is why LAX has lost the Tuesday flight. I don't remember side lockers in the nose - it is quite a confined space. Never sat further back, so don't know about there, Definitely side lockers upstairs. Row 3 looked more squashy to me as you have 6 seats there, so it looked closer together. Row 2 actually gives you the most space between the pairs of seats. The middle pair in row 3 does have more space in front of it, but there is a console thing where they put newspapers and magazines.

Thanks Flying Mermaid.

i recently flew back from HKG in Row 3 the centre seats. Heaps of room in front. The console also has a door on it that you can use to store a bag if needed. No side locker though. Easy to get out without disturbing your neighbour as is essentially direct aisle access. Not a bad seat if flying solo.

Having said all that if travelling be as a pair I do like the upper deck side lockers

QF 12 JFK-SYD on 31 May I have J row 4. Am I likely to keep that seat all the way? They seem to have subbed it for an old 747, but don't know if it is all the way.

PS, how many hours before the flight would the counter open?

I believe if thr seat exists and is available the whole leg you will have it. If not another will be assigned.
A call to QF and they can check and preassign a seat to you for the aircraft change.

I have 16k on qf18 and i can only see the 747 config but i know after calling qf they advised me i also had that seat on the 380. If my first seats does exist on the second i don't get one and it's assigned at checkin or by calling up.
