Anyone have any experiences to report with their carry-on items when transiting from a business class VA 777 flight to a business class flight on an E190 flight?

You will be coming in on an international flight, so need to clear Aust Immi, Customs, quarantine, so all off, no transfer of bags to domestic services.
They won't transfer your bags to the domestic sector.
The arrivals carousel is your best friend.
I dont quite like the VA transfer from T1 to T2, prefer the QF way.
VA bus will pick you up from the VA T1 public area, and drop you off at T2 VA outside, not into the domestic secure zone ala QF.
So you will have to carry your worldly items from T1 to T2 by the bus (major ouch).
Try not to pack too much!

What does terminal transfer (at an unnamed airport to boot) have to do with the OP?

I have never had a problem with carry on on an E190 and that's with 115cm rollaboard and laptop bag.

The OHSB's are quite able to handle rollabords wheels in on both sides.

Norhing that i can see ... it's wrong anyway - if it's on the one ticket you re-check the bags at T1 before catching the bus to T2 (SYD).

Has anyone ever had issues with a reasonable amount of cabin baggage when booked in J on any VA flight, on any aircraft?
I'd be really surprised if they ever attempted to enforce the strict letter of the entitlement, unless you were obviously abusing it.
In reference to the OP, from memory, if anything there is more room on the E190 than on a 738 because there are only 3 pax per row in J not 4.

Yes I have. In dec 2012 flying syd-lax in J. Was traveling 2 ad and 2 ch each with ONE roll aboard. Checkin insisted in me weighing all 4. Two were overweight and she insisted on me taking out stuff and carry by hand. Couldn't believe it! I complied, but went and complained at her attitude to the supervisor. Then lodged a formal complaint after the trip. No one else asked to weigh items!

...

The long haul sector allows 2 bags totalling 14kg carry on whilst the domestic will be only 1. ...
Note that due to USA DOT regulation, carry on is limited to one bag (rollaboard, small duffle, etc.) & one "personal item" (handbag, laptop bag ...).
