Bleeech that cold paella was disgusting and the chicken-loaf pieces have worn out their welcome across multiple dishes also.

Think they do best when they don't try to be fancy and stick to simple things like curries etc.

each to their own...but I know for a fact, QF don't use chicken loaf in these meals......here's a hint...at home, maybe you should poach a chicken breast..slice it...and see what it looks like

they're getting a very raw deal from the supplier if that's the case

Bangers and mash with peas on Friday night. A little bland.
I had this from BNE-SYD last week and thought it was amazing comfort food for an airplane meal. The mash in particular was outstanding - smooth, creamy and so flavourful.

I was actually quite surprised they were still serving dinner as QF557 is an 8.25pm departure and MMB had indicated this to be a refreshment service only.

Interesting that a 5:05pm flight on a Sunday was classed as a dinner flight.

I've often been surprised at dinner being served on ex-BNE flights prior to 6pm. It's as though QLD is in it's own time-warp/zone! ;)

I flew CNS-BNE-SYD, departing CNS at 5.05pm, and had dinner served on both flights! Combined with food in the CNS and BNE lounges we were absolutely stuffed by the time we arrived back in SYD.

According to MMB we get lunch on a 9.20am MEL-CNS service...

Have now had my second ever encounter with the infamous boxed dinner.
Hated it the first time. Hated it just as much the second time. :)

Who wants to eat out of cardboard? Maybe I'm alone in that view - but I certainly don't.

Next time - should there unfortunately be a next time - I would definitely pass.
So I guess it IS a saving for QF. :)

I agree the mash potato was quite nice.

Amazing is very generous complement :)
Had it last night on ADL-BNE, it was good.
Well done to QF for maintaining the quality of meals in Y while offering more variety.

Had the chicken biryani rice and naan bread last week on a MEL-SYD flight. I haven't seen this offered on my flights before and decided to give it a try.

It was tasty comfort food although there were too much rice and too little chicken for my liking.

I agree. I don't like eating out of a box either but I do think the standard of the actual food has improved.

I would like it even more in the previous tray + aluminium hot pack delivery.

Perhaps I should try decanting onto a BYO plate, then. :)
With the current presentation, I can't get past the cardboard.
(Such a princess!) :)

I was in J a few days ago on the 5:30pm SYD-MEL. In J I was offered a choice of cheese box, soup or salad. I asked for a Y hot meal. Much better option IMO.

They are - in summer - those 5pm departures south to MEL/SYD are actually leaving at 6pm, destination time.

Yep, most flights over three hours get a meal service - it just comes down to what.

Given the Cairns flight lands close to 1pm (MEL time), with an after 9am departure, I guess QF decided to define the meal as "Lunch".

i have noticed the lunch meals are nice but the Y dinners been mixed eg barbecue something i didn't like the smell of that

Except, whenever I've looked, meal service has supposedly been based on Departure Time (without a * or a ~ in sight!!).

Based on the QLD model, they'll be immediately serving continental breakfast on QF2 departures next!
