I only have the one 2006 courtesy of the recent Dan's deal. My mate wouldn't help drink it (said I should keep it), so ended up drinking a 2008 Granite Hills Shiraz.

I am far from a wine aficionado, but I do like it. Ask me to describe any of these in terms of berries and leather etc and I can't do. I just know what I like.
Here's how you do it wannabe:
1. Swirl, sniff, sip.
2. Glance out the window, at the fruit bowl, or just around the table and describe what you see.

For example: "A deep earthy texture (out the window), a hint of plums and raspberry (fruit bowl) with a peppery bite (table)." Pretty good for Darwin tap water.

Of course I jest. Your method of knowing what you like and drinking it is a darn good one. I use that method too. :)

It was very good.. peppery, fruity with light tannins... I enjoyed it :)
And in keeping with Shiraz Saturday lol...

My uncle used to run a herd of 30 alpacas (breeding) on his 100 acre property in Cooroy. Bringing back some good times as we learnt a little about alpacas. Their spitting was a sight to see. He became senior in the Qld & Australian Association - I wonder if you know him :eek:

Now I can finally get to have a glass

Poured it and let it breathe for an hour. The first mouthful was very astringent, but the second glass was better. Notes on the back were spot on - dark berry with light oak taste and fine tannin.

Now sitting down to enjoy it

Picked up this number at a Two Hands tasting last night. Pre-release 2012 Ares Shiraz, and at 60% the usual price.
Any standouts in their line-up? Had a 2010 Bella's Garden at a restaurant in Noosa that was a standout. Posted a 2013 Angel's Share recently that was surprisingly oak dominant, even the next day. Nothing like the fruit forward 2012 Angel's (McLaren) and Gnarly Dudes (Barossa) I got for the cellar. How did you rate the Ares?
 
I also have a 2006 and 2008. I had 3 of the 2010 so gave it a go. As I said above, I'm no wine guru and really only recently got into it. The way I look at it, I could be dead tomorrow so I'm going to enjoy what time I do have. Although my girlfriend did get me a 1976 Grange (my birth year) so I hope I make it to 50!

I opened my 75 Grange on my 35th birthday and it was delightful (my father was impressed as it was his first ever Grange).

I opened my 76 Grange on my 40th and it was savoured with some slow cooked beef with mustard and various salads, along with some Indian food. I can say, along with my uncle and his son (both have extensive wine cellars) say that it was the star of my party (along with some Moss Wood and St Henri's).

Both bottles had attended the Penfolds Clinics in 2000/01 and had good provenance. Hope you have yours well looked after...
