ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Citi shorted me on $120k so that equates to 160k of points less than 2 years ago. I tried to push and got told they could go back to the start of the account so I did hang up pretty quickly and then drained the points warehouse.

Long time lurker, first time poster :)

I've read the last few pages of this thread, and a lot of it is about the cards that no longer give points for ATO payments. What are the best cards that still give rewards points / QFF points for ATO payments?

There were quite a few helpful posts on 6th and 7th Feb.

Last 2-3 days were all doom & gloom.

I'd suggest reading those two days first before going back further.

Kris Flyer for 21st as MrsCove's Bankwest is capped out for another 6 months. WOW card at half a point per dollar still works but that will be a much slower pathway to flights even though the cost is 0.84% for QF points. My March statement billing started today.

My march statement starts Monday. I haven't completely given up on the next month, since in a phone call, MAC claimed the points reduction starts after the march statement is issued. I will spend a little over 2.5k and see how the points reflect in the online banking.

Cove, did you get all the points from your WOW of a month?

My prepayments for BAS on Westpac Black ran out this month so today it was hello Platinum Kris Flyer cards and WOW so all good so far. Yes I have paid a week early because I can.

Correct me if I am wrong here but reading the ANZ T & C's mentions:

"1.Qantas Points and Bonus Qantas Points accrue in accordance with the ANZ Frequent Flyer Reward terms and conditions (please call 13 13 14 for a copy). Purchases exclude fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, balance transfers and premiums paid for ANZ Credit Card Insurance. ".

Surely ATO payments are considered 'cash equivalent transactions ' arent they ?

I had previously used a Citi Visa for ATO payments but after a couple, they refused to credit points.

I would like to get back into using a CC for these payments but am concerned that after going thru getting a new card, they will change the rules on me.

How come I am reading here that many are still using an ANZ card for ATO payment when the above clause is in the T & C's ??

Comments please.

Can't see why it's any different to any other bill one has to pay. OK, bit different, but it's just another bill.

Not getting points just means the bank isn't paying Qantas etc for the points, for particular 'merchants' transactions.

happen to accidentally pay my Oct BAS twice, before that nasty day in 9th November for Altittude Black cards when they halved. finally got repay from ATO. it took 3 phone calls though. they wanted me to put it towards my next BAS due to 3/3 and i said forget it. hehehe. it was worth it. had a significant BAS that quarter too, so for the last time to get 3 X points with Alt Black Amex, it was the 3 X generation girl trip to KL in J return for the cost of the extra surcharge basically.
i'm sticking with the Altitude Black even though the points for ATO have halved. i've had a good run, and don't feel like changing at this stage

Hi everyone,

Besides the ANZ Black, is there any other CC that earns 1.5 QFF points per dollar spent on the Amex for ATO payments ?
I know NAB premium is still good for ATO but that's only 1 ppd isn't it on the Visa ?
I'm looking for highest earn rate and don't mind the Amex surcharge.

Cheers

Here's what the QCU card application questions look like for an employed person.

In response to your recent request for a credit card application, please see below for documents that we require for assessment purposes:

Your last 3 payslips
3 most recent statements of each credit card/store account that you hold – regardless of how much is owing
A recent 6 month statement of each personal loan/car loan/home loan that you have as well as transaction listing from statement end date to current
A rental income statement for each property that you own that is tenanted
A 6 month statement of the savings account that your pay is deposited to and a transaction listing from statement end to current

** please ensure all statements contain name, address, balance owing and credit limit where applicable**
