I booked some [M]ASA tickets before the booking engine changes which took them offline. This particular ticket was changed once during the "phone up" phase of the [M]ASA-gate affair. It has now become apparent that I probably can't use this ticket as I will not be allowed to take the required time off work. As such I need to change it (e.g. rebook), or cancel & refund.

My questions:

Option A: Rebook (shorten the trip or change dates entirely)
1 -- Is this even possible as the ticket type doesn't exist any more?
2 -- What happens to the points and SC earn?

Option B: Cancel and refund
3 -- Can I get a full refund? Is this based on my initial purchase of the ticket?

(I paid about a few hundred thousand points, and approx. $1K cash). It is my understanding that at the time of booking this ticket carried the same terms as a regular ticket (that is, no cancellation penalty, and fully flexible and fully refundable.). I am not sure if this "changed" when it was rebooked, as it was done over the phone, although the agent at the time said everything was the same. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Can't help on Part A but On Part B I had to cancel a couple of JASA's and received full points and Dollars back. 1 time I was told there would be a cancellation fee and I just asked them to check with a supervisor and all sorted quite quickly. The agent explained she started working since the ASA's were phased out so wasn't familiar.

I have had no problems changing the dates post July and continuing to earn as per usual (0SC credited at flight then an automatic update 1-2 days later).

I have had every agent tell me there is a change fee of 3500 points, I just say yeah sure and it never gets actually charged - I assume its just their automatic response to the Award seat and the computer is smart enough to not charge it.

The original rules should remain. See this thread for more:

Thank you serfty, legendary knowledge as usual.

Any idea on Questions 1&2?

I seem to recall that any changes mean it ceases to be??

1. I believe you can 'revalidate' up to a year after ticket issuance (Change of dates and time, but not routing, carrier, class etc. - anything that results in reticketing).

2. If you can do 1, then 2 would follow.

Of course, it may be less complicated to simply cancel if you can at no fee.

I was able to change one of my JASA online but trying to change another one - it's one way - I can see available J seats for classic awards but when I try and change it online it just comes up with an additional $550 (last week it was about $750) - anyone encountered that?

You paid $750 last week to change a JASA?

My understanding is that any online change to these tickets would move them out of 'U' and into one of CDIJ based on availability, and you would need to pay the "fare difference"

No - the price differential last week was $750 and now it's $500 (not quite that stoopid :))I did change another one recently on line- hope that hasn't changed the class

As mentioned in another thread;

I got charged $300 for a cancellation

Finding U in the time left is very difficult

I've decided to leave my other bookings as is

Good Luck!
