You obviously do not know 'Sir' Angus Houston. I have no problem with you having an opinion but cannot agree with you on this one.

As someone who can honestly call him a personal friend I believe he is one of the few out there who actually earns everything he gets:!:

I agree with you about Sir Angus.

The trouble is that by awarding Phillip the same honour it has diminished the honour rightly deserved to him.

I'm disgusted at what Abbott has done.

I completely agree that the awarding of a knighthood to Prince Philip is just totally wrong.
However it isn't an "Imperial" honour. It is a knighthood of the Order of Australia.

Bah Humbug! Knights and Dames ... about as relevant as Human Rights Commissioner.

The joys on unemployment. Centrelink sends you to a recruitment agency. Who takes you resume then tells you they won't be helping you find a job as they have assessed you as capable of finding your own. Great system!

You don't really get any help from till the 3 month mark. If you got a degree, sorry no help to do any courses to get licenses or certificates. If you have a scientific degree, they will just blindly look at you. One recruiter wanted me to go work at a chicken processing factory run by baiada, which I knew had a number of workplace deaths and was abusing 457 visa holders. Someone is making pretty good money out of this.

Last time I had regular appointments, though they really didn't do anything. They don't know what to do with someone who has a PhD....

blackcat20, I'm sure they don't often have people with your level of qualifications, walk through the door? I'll bet they were a bit surprised. So I guess you are on Newstart...do you subscribe to a industry mag or have contact with your tutors/profs who may know what is happening in your particular specialty?

It's six months if your in the self sufficient category going by my experience, and then they throw any job at you. I forgot to tell them I had a job, when they rung up they were a bit gob smacked at what I got, pay etc. There seems to be a big gap in the employment consultant/recruiter field, at one end you have the commission guns who advertise non existent jobs and seem to have only their interests at heart, at the other end there is the government funded organisations who seem to get paid by appointment numbers.

Right outcome but IMHO wrong priority, self, family then job. The first two are irreplaceable.

That is debatable in our modern capitalist world... :p

Hope things improve for you.

Thanks.

I think I will be looking for a new job soon anyway... just not as soon as it may have been.

I had a group appointment with four others. All educated therefore no job search assistance. At least last time they pretended to help (and one replacement person actually got me my job). That replacement was honest whith e fact that the others probably didn't know what to do with me. I've got two interviews lined up this a week arranged through personal contacts...

I'm rather bored and am watching the first episode of the Block. Clearly I am missing the subtleties. It's like wanker TV to me.
