Qantas extends priority boarding to SG frequent flyers

Maybe there should be 3 separate boarding lanes instead of 2 :p:

Lane 1: CL/WP1/WP
Lane 2: SG
Lane 3: All others

Edit: GOLD and SILVER could always share Lane 2 ;)

Get AA to take over the process. They are the only ones who can do PB well. QF should not board anyone from the general queue until the PB line has been serviced in strict CL, P1, WP and SG order.

Doesn't sound too hard does it ;) SG get their benefit and the WP/P1's get to keep theirs

Silver in the gold lane ! What an erosion of my privileges that would be, no way ;)

I'm going to don the flame suit here but what's the big deal with PB anyway ? To get to sit down for even longer than an eternity ? If the main reason is to ensure you get adequate access to the storage bins then I think that's a whole different problem (or maybe 2 problems). The airlines should police the kitchen sink brigade and I think that's starting to happen and they should also police the Y pax dropping their carryon in the J bins as they move down the cabin. Apart from that is it such a big problem standing in line for a little while and then you'll get in line in the air bridge anyway. I think it's a perception thing, I'm more important than you cos I fly a lot so stand aside. Otherwise, why would the airlines make such a big deal of the benefit.

Tend to agree but on 737's in J there is an issue specially with row 1 having half (or less) the storage spae and no underseat storage, so there is incentive to get on specially if seated in row 1, or even in 2 or 3 as space goes fast (not including Y pax). If it's a 767 (well not for much longer!) or 332 I worry less as there's lots of bin space up front. that's my, er, priority (and for the record I usually travel with a small bag or backpack, not a kitchen sink.. sometimes a roller carryon size, but it's legit size).

Otherwise yeah I don't tend to feel the need to go jump on to sit for a bit longer on domestic.

Very good point. Unless, it is a larger aircraft where the air bridge splits in two, PB is rather pointless unless you are first there, but then it wouldn't matter which queue you were in!!

Once again the issue is not about time and it certainly isn't about trying to look important or standing in a line. Trying to pretend it is about those things seems to illustrate why this is a bad move.

for me it's so NOT about "oooh look at me I'm walking the PB lane and have a J BP" - so what?! If I was that sort I'd just hang P1 bag tags from my carry on (I don't) and block everyone as I put my bags up into the J bins, making sure to align bag tags to show my status of course, and make it clear.

goodness no. I want to get on if I'm in a window (which I prefer) to stow stuff and get out of the way before the aisle seat pax shows up.

yes, it is handy to use the PB for this purpose, but it's not about standing out for the jealous Y pax and once a decade flyers.

The last couple of posters have nailed it, for Row 1 pax, people who like window seats and people whom know its going to be a full flight and overhead bin space is limited then PB may be important to these people.

Here is an example of PB as it done in IST:

For QF Domestic flights it should be:
A. Business Class
B. P1/CL
C. WP
D. SG
Problem solved.

Not quite so with AA.A couple of years ago we were on an MCO-DFW flight. There had been a conference of lawyers in Orlando and the purser later told us there were 50+ EXPs on the flight. So boarding was First class pax then EXP and OWE.You should have heard the complaints as we walzed by!

What I really dislike about PB on QF is that the PB lane and the 'normal' lane are running concurrently. So, if you're near the front of the normal lane, you'll get on before a status person further back in the PB lane. That doesn't make sense to me. Having a PB lane should mean getting on before anyone in the normal lane. That's what VA do at the start of boarding and that's why it works so well. If you come to the gate late, then you can go through the PB lane and bypass the queue in the normal lane. That's what PB is all about.

And the silver/red/non-status stay behind? :p

After finish PB then announce GB for the rest. It worked so well, I was very impressed.
The QF system of two lines boarding simultaneously is wrong because it creates another queue on the aerobridge and makes PB not that affective.

I'll take a photo of me with that group for my TK flight next year.

Unless I ask for a status match. ;)
