Current best option for annual travel insurance

Since time immemorial, I have bought an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy, as I travel both interstate and overseas a lot and my travel tends not to be paid by myself or, for that matter, on a credit card. I also prefer having the consistency and thus knowing exactly what is and is not covered and what the limits are to my coverage.

I used to buy the QBE (branded as Qantas Travel Insurance), nowadays at a price of $545.00 a year (but with QFF points). I had to make 2 claims in the 10 years or so that I was with them and each time I did not have much trouble. The claims process was quick and the staff I dealt with were friendly and helpful. In case you wanted to know, one was for items I had to purchase because my bags arrived in Montréal more than 24 hours after I did (What did I expect when I was transiting through both LAX and ORD?). The other was where I lost my sunglasses at Fukuoka Airport and did not notice until I was already on the flight and, even though I had no documents or incident reports to prove that I lost them there, I was paid after I produced the invoice for my glasses and a photo of me wearing them there (coincidentally, at the airport).

For the last few years, I have bought annual travel insurance from ACE, branded as Citibank Travel Insurance, for $380.00 a year. I did compare the schedule of benefits between this and the QBE alternative but the main deciding factor for me was price. I have not made a claim with them so I cannot recommend them to anyone, and I hope I never have to!

Last year I paid TID $366 for a year long, worldwide policy, this year their online quote is telling me over $1800 - what the?! I guess I'll be comparison shopping...

Edited: no, just their online quote tool doesn't work properly for annual multi-trip. You have to select a different option on the website and go from there. Is now $390ish (for two people).

Guess you went for an actual year long policy, rather than an annual multi. All companies will need to differentiate, but most make it a bit easier by having a little checkbox! Not sure why TID don't.

Does anyone have any recent experiences with annual policies that cover 'longer' trips :?:

I need to find something for a 66 night OS trip.

Is your trip for business or pleasure? The TID annual multi-trip policy covers business trips up to 90 days. From their PDS:
Annual Multi Trip: a 12-month policy for
people under age 76 who travel frequently.
Cover includes both international and
domestic
leisure trips for a maximum of 38
days or business trips for a maximum of 90
days.

All leisure.

Columbus Direct are looking at extending their 60 days to 70 days for me. (At a cost)

I think 1Cover covers trips up to 90 days but does not cover anyone over 60. I am sorry I have forgotten how old you are.

GIO and Suncorp covers trips up to 90 days but are quite expensive. Look to be underwritten by same company.

I am not sure if these have restrictions on whether trip is business trip or leisure trip in the fine print.

I had a claim which underwriters ok'd yesterday but declined additional expense including 'meals, phone calls and out of pocket expenses'. Accommodation and flights were ok.

They'll have a fight on their hands next week.

And the primary insurance company was? and why did they reject?

Any update on best annual, maybe with a discount code? This would be for my healthy daughter who's over 25 (if that makes any difference). I have Worldwide but have never made a claim.

Just read some of the voluminous Canstar ratings document. There are 3 that they recommend :TID, Insure and go and Southern Cross Travel Insurance.

See Canstar.com.au. If anyone has any thoughts or experiences, plse share.

My TID multi trip annual is up for renewel soon.

$355 last year including a discount code.
$415 this year and I'm in need of a code.

I have not had to claim yet and most of my work travel is covered by work. They will however not cover damaged or lost luggage hence the insurance. It was important for me that TID will cover charter flights such as my helicopter to/from work.
There has been more than one story of luggage being "turfed" into or out of fixed wing and rotary charter flights on to the ground with the result of smashed laptops and phones.

I am 60 so they cover oldies too!

I just got a quote after searching for TID Voucher and for a 60yo it came up as $370 for 1 year.

Ask for a deal. They gave me a code when I asked (and explained I'd been a customer for x years).
