Some DYKWIA complaining about bogans at Perth Airport. Beware some NSFW language.

OMG, I've just synced my phone and I've been spammed by Bono and his U2 flogs, what the hell apple?

Given the data you have on us how about you just look at our most popular bands and import one of those albums? Share the love instead of giving 100 million bucks to the biggest Flog going around.

I think they've done that to just about everyone with one of their phones. Because they know you better than you know yourself apparently. :p

Not the message they were hoping to sell....

Shock horror, Ambrose back in V8s (Yessssssss), suddenly my interest in Nascar has waned.

Just saw a north Melbourne vet proudly announce, via Facebook, that they operated on a gold fish. I'm absolutely speechless. Not sure if it was life threatening. But they removed a tumour from its head. No idea of the cost and I get that people love their pets, but it's a goldfish!

Another report on George the Goldfish.

Recovery: George is doing swimmingly.

Just back from Coffs Harbour, nasty accident at Marulan, must say thanks to "Roy and Rhonda" from Coolac for being so courteous and letting me merge when we went from two lanes to one at the accident site and a special "hello" to "CHEF 73" who seems to think they don't have to stay left when not overtaking.

Sarcasm of course. I'd love to see Australian drivers have to sit the same sort of tests that you do to get a license in Germany! rant over.

On a sadder note, my condolences to the family and friends of the person that reportedly died at the scene. Some people's lives have been changed in the blink of an eye. :(

The subject of driver training comes up on this thread from time to time. And just in case anyone has forgotten: drivers should be taught by properly trained instructors and not their parents or friends. That just promotes bad driving being passed from one generation to the next.

The company I worked for had a requirement for anyone driving company vehicles to complete (and pass) a driver training assessment ever two years. A a pilot who is used to completing check rides and flight tests a the time it really was a non event and even an opportunity to learn about rule changes etc.

I also agree with JessicaTam that driver training needs to be done by professionals and to elaborate, current professionals. A good example is (no names) someone I know well who started out his daughters driver training before she went to a professional driver trainer. The message came back that he had been teaching her wrong information and techniques.
This person was a very experienced military flying instructor on Caribou, Hercules and CT4 aircraft and had even been the CO of a flying training school. Great instructional technique but wrong information.

30+ years ago my parents funded professional instructors and insisted that I attend a defensive driving course after I received my licence. I'm the last of 4 boys ..... I think they learnt a few things over time.

I believe driver training - theory, regulations, basic maintenance and practical - should be a compulsory middle/high school subject.
Maybe I'm being naive but I believe the initial costs would be paid for in the space of one generation by the reduction of the overall cost of the current road toll, especially in the 18-25 age group.
The savings to the families would be incalculable.

I both agree and disagree with JessicaTam. My father taught me very well how to mechanically drive a car. Something that saved me, at 19 or 20, from a messy aquaplaining situation. That was backed up by a professional driving instructor who taught me how to drive on the road, plus a defensive driving course. So I completely agree that all people should have compulsory professional driver training. The longer the better.

I was also the only person in my class to pass the driving test on the first attempt.

Agreed medhead, but need to ask if a professional driving instructor could have done better than your father? Without knowing your father I would have to say probably yes. (Ie in 99% of cases.)

Like you I was taught by my father and passed my test first time, however like everything else I believe that things have changed over the years and what you and I experienced (and served us well) is not the case any more.

The Sydney Olympics Opening ceremony was on 14 years ago tonight, was lucky enough to go thanks to some generous friends. Thank you for a once in a lifetime memory Sydney.

I was on the Spirit of Tasmania, heading to Tassie with about 5,000 racing pigeons. My hubby called me en-route to say we had just settled on our first investment property, memorable day.

I got diagnosed with cancer that day and didn't actually see the opening ceremony.
