Presumably to help pay for the TBIT lounge expansion that will result in QP members being allowed access again!

Not that I am a Qantas club member anymore, but this is the biggest joke, not only have the routes been cut over the last few years, thus reducing QC's 'footprint' like Frankfurt, Mumbai, Per-SIN, Per-HKG not to mention a few Domestic ones here or there. Then there is the whole LAX lounge QP member debacle going on. How can anyone still justify the 'benefits' for such high cost (and decreasing benefits)?

btw-where did you see this? I've looked on the QF site couldn't see anything mentioning a price rise?

Don't worry, they'll do another 50% off membership drive after the price increase.

You have to wonder if that is quite the best way to manage these sorts of things...

Like take out ATA because of QP crowding issues then offer discount memberships....

Can create a bit of cognitive dissonance when trying to process two contradictory messages which amount to a load of bollocks...

And Business lounge 'maintenance' over Christmas/New years period.

Can someone explain to me the value of buying QP access? Given the price and even with corporate or AFF rate, I figure you'd have to be flying a minimum of 20 sectors (dom) per year to get near break even value. But if you're doing 20 sectors plus a couple of international trips you'd get close to QFF Gold anyway and get access for free.

Pure price considerations don't make that much sense, more the intangibles, especially on Domestic only. TBH you really miss access when you don't have it, which is why I splashed out on Virgin Lounge when midway through my Gold-chase with them.

- somewhere (relatively) quiet to be during delays
- staff at the service desk who do appear to have buy-in to solve your issue
- decent toilets (Mrs BD wouldn't dream of using terminal toilets!!)

And, especially for those long-hauls:

- a decent shower

Nothing to do with saving on the wages bill for those weeks. And forcing employees to take holidays.
I wish I could just stop work for 6 weeks over the holiday period.
 
What is wrong with these people, its just change after change after change, this is just another one where they shoot themselves in the foot as they continue to alienate many of their customers, I've not known any airline or business that continues to act this way on a continual basis.

Surely the question should be: what is wrong with these customers that they continue to return time-after-time despite their spend being worth less-and-less and their loyalty being "rewarded" with the continual removal of services? (Let's not call them benefits, they are services which have been paid for through the previous provision of revenue).

Given recent enhancements to QP Membership, you really couldn't make this stuff up!

The accountants are clearly in charge at QF!

My bet is that it will go over $1k to join, probably $650 for annual renewal (without the joining fee/AFF discount).
One thing that gets my goat, about QP is that even if I let membership lapse a year or two, the time when I join again, I have to again pay the joining fee. (Not taking into account the discount off QP by being an AFF member).
Compared to what we get (food wise) in/on VA lounge though, I would have to say, that QP is still better, and worth paying the $185 difference, (VA PS vs QP (without joining fee or taking into account QFF discount).
QP member can access QP and associated lounges overseas (flying QF or JQ), which is better than flying VAi and not having lounge access to Koru (if not flying NZ J/C/D).

If we are guessing, I will say AUD370 to join, AUD600 pa to keep the total just under the 1k mark for new members.

Yep they keep going to the lounge as they fly, and pay a hefty fee to keep em in the club and they stay loyal and spend money on airfares.

I tend to call my break even costs to be 10 visits per membership year with at least 2 of those visits been a good couple of hours. At 10 visits (and they need to be proper visits, not just 5 minutes to go to the loo between connecting flights) it brings the cost down to around $50 per visit.

Whilst that does make it an expensive beer / G&T it's the non food and drink things which make all the difference (eg been able to take a shower before an o'night flight, or having a quiet place to work).

Of course a visit where I'd have lounge access anyway (eg when I'm flying J) doesn't actually count towards my 10.

Beyond 10 visits every visit is a bonus.

I guess a big problem is lounge access is like a drug... In theory you can quit it anytime you like and spend a couple of hours down in the terminal, however when you actually do all you can think about is what you need to do to get back into a lounge / how great your next flight which allows lounge access will be. QF knows it and they know that if they do a price rise, the vast majority (myself included) will cough and moan to the cows come home, vow how bad QF is, but then pull out the trusty CC come lounge renewal time.
