4 AA segments rule may be being enforced

I was just perusing a thread on FTthat may have implications for those contemplating going over to AA. It would appear to fit into the new realities of Aadvantage like no more soft landings. Of course these might be isolated cases but I think we'll know as more time passes and more non AA flying members don't (or do) receive increase in status.

So it's a wait and see.

Well my Monday morning just went downhill...

Re: 4 AA segments rule may be being enforced

Seems the most recent May AAdvantage email statements have had this notation:

This will have a pretty bad impact on a lot of non-US-based oneworld FF who favor(ed) AAdvantage over other OW programs. Just in the past few weeks, there's been a quite a few QFF refugees who were jumping ship after a recent devaluation. Now those people are screwed when they don't travel to the US on AA at least once per year.

I'll post a link to this thread in the OW forum.

Well that seems to confirm things. I need to change the mood from subjunctive to indicative.

I have a vague memory that QF did this some time ago.

Re: 4 AA segments rule may be being enforced

Its a good thing I have my four AA segments already locked in for the year. Its been written in the terms and conditions for a long time, so no surprise that they have decided to enforce it just like other OneWorld airlines do.

Re: 4 AA segments rule may be being enforced

The more people that take aadvantage of the program, the higher the likelihood things will be enhanced.

Much like why I am not a fan of 50+ ppl traipsing through a certain lounge on a saturday

Re: 4 AA segments rule may be being enforced

I've had to re-jig a oneworld Explorer as a result of this.

Next year, I don't know what I'll do.

Re: 4 AA segments rule may be being enforced

Oh the Aadvantages of LTP!:D

+ 1 ....you can add deliberately overpaying the ATO.

Re: 4 AA segments rule may be being enforced

As long as they retain Platinum challenge as-is I think obtaining Platinum every other year should be easy enough to do. One year earning, one year burning. If the challenges are 'enhanced' I may need to think about switching programs for earning.

AA no longer have soft landings. Lose Plat and you fall to the bottom: no status benefits.
You are unlikely to be able do an AA challenge every 2nd or 3rd year

Unfortunately the internet increases the likelihood of "enhancements" as the word spreads quicker.

I don't follow the AA forum on Flyertalk but is this a getting a bashing like Qantas gets a bashing for any "enhancements"?

Not really - AA will likely escape significant bashing on FlyerTalk for this while the United and Delta forums continue to digest the minimum spend requirements to achieve status for US based members on those airlines.

4 segements on AA does not effect 99.99999% of FT people on the AA forum.
It does effect others not regularly flying in the USA or on AA codeshares.

"I am the .00001%" T-shirt anyone?

You may get a few sales. Given the large number of passengers AA/US has, there are not many of us wanting to buy the t-shirt. You can still get AA codeshares on OW RTW tickets

i have recently qualified for EP with over 100k qualifying points but have been told by AA customer service that i must fly 4 AA or US airways segments before they will bump me from platinum to exec plat.

anyone seen this before ? i know it's always been in the T&C's but in 10 years this is the 1st time it's been enforced.

what are my options based in melbourne ? do code shares count ?

Recent enforcement from earlier this year. Heaps of posts here and over on FT when they surprised a fair few members with this enhancement and a few other beauties...

AA codeshares on QF metal need to be in conjunction with an international ticket I believe.
