On the positive, those departing on Int flights with access to QF F lounge might be having some more champagne than expected.

Looking at the TAF (Terminal Area Forecast) there is not going to be much change before 10PM re moderate/severe turbulence below 5000ft although the wind will drop in strength around 6PM allowing more runways to be used.

Seems to be impacting the call centre aswell  I've been waiting to speak to someone for a while (yes, I've hung up and redialed).

Hello

Flew into MEL from SYD on the 11am flight today.

Arriving aircraft was late due to the 1 runway operation, so boarding didn't start till 10.55am.

After which the captain announced the strong wind/single runway situation and we were to stay on the stand for 50mins before push back.

I was in J, and we had drink service while we waited. The main screen entertainment was turned on as well, but not QStreaming.

I reckon we pushed back after 35mins and took off from the East-West runway. Got into Melb about 1hr behind scheduled arrival.

Not a big deal if you're not in a hurry. Read the papers, had a few drinks. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday morning :)

JQ956, which was due to depart SYD at 1540 for CNS is only just about to take off at 1657 after pushing back at 1639.

This means it is unlikely to arrive CNS much before 1945. If I am not mistaken, it forms JQ959 that is timetabled to depart CNS at 1920 for a 2220 arrival in the Harbour City.

However the earliest it could get away is 2015 which means a breach of curfew, as it would not touch down much before 2305 - assuming minimum CNS turnaround (not guaranteed.)

Will these passengers have to be accommodated overnight in CNS? The only other JQ arrival at CNS I can see in that timeframe is one ex MEL but it returns this evening to MEL.

at this point they are going to try from the looks of it, they will be going as quick as they can up to Cairns

Aussie-flyer, true, and since I wrote the above Flightradar24.com - Live flight tracker! claims that its arrival time at CNS will be 1931, so in theory it could be back at SYD for touchdown by 2245 or so with a really fast turnaround. However all you need is other aircraft running late and a queue forming to get into SYD (quite on the cards given that some SYD arrivals and departures are an hour to almost two hours late at present) or passenger(s) with checked baggage failing to load at CNS (and if the rules are properly followed the bags then having to be manually offloaded) and the flight won't make it.

Similar incidents in the past have indeed seen flights make up time and just get in 'at death's door' but we'll have to see how it goes tonight with JQ959.

I've just been through Sydney and had a fairly painless experience. My inbound flight was on time and we had no delays getting into Sydney either. Quite a few of the big heavies were still departing off 34L I noticed. Our departing flight pushed back on time and we had 6 ahead of us and sat on the runway edge for only 20 mins or so and have arrived with minimal delay. Thankfully a Sunday as this was much less stress than the last time I encountered sydney like that.

JQ767 from ADL to SYD is estimated to depart 90 minutes late at 2055 and arrive SYD at 2315, again 90 minutes late.

This would similarly involve a breach of curfew. How can JQ be so confident hours in advance that it has the Federal Ministerial delegate's permission to touch down after curfew? Of course. things can change and the flight might pick up time, but it seems a big call to make a few hours in advance.

However, use of both north/south runways has resumed, so that will help.

and it has been cancelled.

No Issues for me this afternoon. Record time in fact 1hr gate to gate!. Aviation gods were certainly looking after me today.

Op-up to J.
Gate 11 Mel for RWY 27 dep.
RWY 25 Landing for Gate 13.
Bags first out!

Im a happy chappy.

Aussie_Flyer, thank you. As it turned out, JQ768 is not expected to land at ADL until 2050, 115 minutes late ex SYD, so it would have been impossible to get back to SYD anywhere close to 2300 tonight.

Looks like A320 VH-VQR will be spending an unscheduled Sunday evening and early Monday morning in ADL. These sudden cancellations must play havoc with rosters, apart from the difficulty of getting airline staff home for the evening which for some may have been their roster for that day.

JQ959 from CNS to SYD has finally just shown on the Cheap flights | Jetstar site as 'cancelled.'

Thankfully some AFFers who had a dream run today may be happy 'chappies' or 'chapettes' but I doubt that those marooned in ADL or SYD would all be smiling, even though Acts of God such as strong westerlies in SYD are outside JQ's control.

It shows that even though two runway operation resumed sooner than AFFer markis10 had predicted even earlier in the day, knock on delays can have severe consequences.

At least two planes are out of position for morning flights. Assuming that JQ does the right thing and accommodates passengers, hotels must love this as Sunday night can be a slack night for accommodation operators in many nations including ours.

I blame JQ

But IMHO great night for hotel operators all over Australia with delays and the airlines picking up the tab.
