I am just starting out and have been skimming through this thread and I can see there is a lot of good advice here! However I noticed it is mainly for Domestic travel, but am hoping I would be able to get some help with an upcoming trip I am hoping to take to Europe. As of May 5th I will have 100 Status Credits, with a planned trip to Queenstown planned (but not purchased as yet) in July, my trip to europe is aimed for around February 6th/10th until 21st/24th. My destination is London and obviously I would like the best value for money status credits and I'll be hoping I can then plan other tactical trips before then to maximise how the status credits will get used for membership upgrade.

The reseach I have done so far suggests that the best value seems to be booking the 1 journey in premium economy to London (flying out on a tuesday both directions) with a stop in abu dhabi, I believe this will give me 150 status credits for approx $3100. However the trips between Abu Dhabi and London I believe I will be seated in Economy as Etihad does not have a premium economy section?

Anyway, I was hoping some more experienced flyers/researchers could help me out please with any other possible good value ways to get status credits, it would be greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't you earn 120 SCs to Abu Dhabi (PE), then a further 60SCs (Full Y) on to London - so 180SCs each way? The 150SCs would only apply if it was a single flight number, which it won't be going to London.

Alternative is SQ Y via Singapore, possibly A380 all the way, you'll earn 140SCs each way if you book either a Virgin coded flexi or Singapore Airlines flexi-saver or better.

the thing is, there is a level of competition at OOL, see discount code thread.

For late April the cheapest MEL-BNE flexi is $349, MEL-OOL is$235 & MEL-xSYD-OOL is $261.

The former two earn 30 SC's, the latter 40 SC's.

Took your advice and booked this to OOL - MEL- xSYD (flexi) but I was told that if its on the same booking you only get status from OOL-MEL regardless of change of flight.

Is that correct or am I looking forward to 40 SC's

That should only apply if it was the same flight number, which it shouldn't be. It should be 40 SC's.

I need some advice about SC earned on the Perth - coughet sector in J.

The Velocity calculator states it is 3004 miles which should mean 120 SC.

But I note that it also has a clause stating that these distances are only estimates.

I want to make sure that it is 120 SC as it is close to the 3001 miles threshold.

Has anyone travelled this route and can confirm this?

I can confirm they always take that estimate as the earning mileage.

Economy:
SYD-MEL return - flexi fare - 20 each way
SYD-HBA return - saver fare - one leg via MEL - 10 per leg.

10 is the minimum so there might be some SYD-CBR or SYD-NTL flights that are cheaper.

Hi guys! I'm sitting on 480 SC at the moment & need 20 more by May 17th to obtain gold status. I think a saver fare TSV-BNE-TSV is in order to get me over the line. But can someone explain to me what the story is with eligible sectors? It says I require 4 of them to obtain gold. That number never seems to change even after I've flown with them a number of times recently.

VA don't count down with flown eligible sectors towards higher status, they only count down the eligibility to retain current status. I had the same concern in my first year of VA membership. You'll enjoy Gold so much, you'll do almost anything to not go back to Silver or Red again....and try to attain Plat instead.

To quote from Velocity website:

Upgrading to Gold membership

Each day we will assess your membership for an upgrade based on the number of Status Credits earned and Eligible Sectors flown in the previous 12 months. As soon as your Status Credit balance reaches 500 and you have flown 4 Eligible Sectors you will automatically upgrade to Gold membership.

Ah fair enough. I was beginning to get concerned that all my flying I've been doing wasn't going to be rewarded with gold status. Looking forward to turning gold, I've only ever been as high as silver status before.
