Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well.

I was just wondering if anyone knew whether the loophole on AA re: YUP/P fares was still in effect, or whether it has since closed (i.e. 6 x SCs)

Thanks
Chris

I haven't seen anything to suggest YUP/KUP/QUP no longer being offered or no longer crediting as first (when confirmed in first).

It is not a 'loophole', with a YUP you do indeed travel in Paid first class albeit on American Airlines. You pay to travel in P class & you earn at first class rates either on the QFF, the AAdvantage or another oneWORLD program.

Exactly, YUP books into A class, which is discounted First Class. Status Credits are paid for First Class. That is hardly a loophole.

Note that you cannot purchase a YUP fare if A class is not available. If you have purchased a YUP fare and later choose to standby for a different flight, you travel in first class if A is available on the new flight, ot Y is no A is available. If you end up in Y for this reason, expect to only receive Y credit for the fight per the booking class.

That is crazy!!! So i've been travelling in coach on AA all this time, when I could have been flying first class for a fraction more, and earning first class SCs!!! aggghhhhh - kill me now!!!

thanks everyone for your advice. One more question though, how do you know if the flight you have selected has A class fares? (i assume this means that they have a "first class" cabin).

If you book on aa.com, select restricted first. Legs that do not have first class available (whether due to 1-class flight or sold out) will be highlighted in yellow and show class of travel as economy.

Use farecompare to identify routes where xUP's are sold.

thanks kiwiflyer.

Now why dont they have these kind of fares on international flights back home to oz :(

boo!!!

Partly because AA don't fly to Oz!

I have just booked one of these fares and FWIW, it booked into P class.

Code:
American AFP First 1 50%
Airlines® (AA) _________________________________________________________
Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes.

I did some research last night for my next coast to coast trip on AA.com, to see what kind of YUP fares were on offer. And yes, you are right, they book on a "P" class, which is classified as first class for QFF.

There are actually two types of YUP fares now, being YUPP and YUP. This started around September 2005. YUPP book into P and YUP book into A. YUPP is generally cheaper than YUP.

As I look for the cheaper fares that's probably the reason why I have not seen any of these booking into A. ;) ...

Anyone know if there are decent YUP/KUP/QUP fares from the DCA area that can be completed in 2 days?

Hiya

I'm just wondering if anyone has a clear answer about QFF earn on KUPP fares on AA.com

When you book the fare, it shows up as booking in "P" class, which for QFF purposes is "first class".

However, when you look in the fine print under "Fare Details" it shows a booking reference starting with "K" which for QFF purposes is "full economy class".

So the question is, what does QFF book the KUPP fares to..."P" class or "K" class.

Thanks
Chris

@Chris_Leo This would imply that they credit as First

As long as you book into first (ie it exists on your flight and there is availability at time of booking), then I'd expect first class SCs and point earning on QFF, at least until such time as QFF decides that the paid fare is an economy one. Latest reports are that is not the case, yet.

Booking code = P or A
Fare Basis begins with Y/K or whatever.

Its the Booking Code that is relevant to the cabin you travel in and the FF processing.

However they are quite capable of distinguishing an upgrade on AA these days. It seems that normally the KUP/YUPs do currently credit as 1st class, though there was a report a while ago about someone only getting economy credit
