Been doing some rule checking just now and noticed that YUP-KUP rules appear to have changed to

2 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION ONLINE ON THE PRIMARY CARRIER FARE BREAK AND EMBEDDED SURFACE SECTORS PERMITTED ON THE FARE COMPONENT

Whereas previously they stated;
UNLIMITED TRANSFERS PERMITTED ON THE FARE COMPONENT ONLINE ON THE PRIMARY CARRIER

Have only checked a couple of routes but it seems consistent... Is this the end of the YUP-KUP era?

These rules can vary with origin and destination. You will see them mor often for hub origins/destinations.

You are unlikely to seem them for Hawaii to/from Caribbean for example.

That is my usual focus, HNL to Carribean, example below is HNL tot PAP and also checked HNL to BGI and HNL to AUA

LN FARE BASIS OW USD RT B PEN DATES/DAYS AP MIN MAX R

FCL: KUP7CR TRF: 5 RULE: 7030 BK: I
PTC: ADT-ADULT FTC: ERS-ECONOMY RESTRICTED 2ND LVL
TF.TRANSFERS/RTGS

2 TRANSFERS PERMITTED IN EACH DIRECTION
ONLINE ON THE PRIMARY CARRIER

A bit of backdate pricing shows that the rules changed for the above in February.

Interesting. I know what i'll be spending a lot of time researching this weekend.

Sent from my GT-I9100 using AustFreqFly App

Can anyone give an example of a routing/fare that would have been allowed under the old rules, but isn't available now? It doesn't have to be a super secret good value routing, but anything that will help explain what this change means for those of us who aren't fluent in the language of fare and routing conditions.

Fare basis I0OW still allows unlimited transfers at approx AUD140 more on a sample of HNL-BGI, or just AUD50 more on HNL-PAP. Not so bad.

To TIMB. e.g. previously on KUP7CR you could do HNL-DFW-STL-ORD-JFK-MIA-BGI, but now you can only connect twice, e.g. HNL-DFW-MIA-BGI. However a different fare basis is available that gives you unlimited at a slightly higher price.

I'm waaaaay confused. Can somebody please explain the rule change in layman's terms?

On some KUP/YUPs rules changed so you are forced to take more direct flights and not cram in every segment you can possibly find.
