Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

In fact there would be certain cases where to give WP's their flights, it would be costing QF more money than they earn, and they are even taking that seat away from a NSNB who would have earned the airline a profit from that seat. (Eg JQ35 runs springs to mind)

Oh, I am in firm agreement with you on this point. However there have been a number of posts on this forum arguing that priority check-in, extra baggage, lounge access etc. cost QF very little. I disagree with that assessment.

As I've posted in the very long thread on the QF rule changes, I think QF would much rather infrequent travellers buying the cheap tickets, as they might be able to make some marginal profit out of those people. If QF have to give away status benefits, it would be to people who's bought enough higher profit tickets to justify the costs. The worst case for QF is high status flyers buying cheap tickets.

Anyway, given the many arguments about how QF needs its "loyal flyers" (regardless of profitability), I'm surprised that there aren't more people asking QF to simply subsidise the cost of WPs (or SGs or whatever) when they book. It's just as silly (or not) as the other suggestions. Why would a struggling carrier give away more money to people who aren't making any profit? If it's good enough to give out freebie 'x', why not $100 every time you fly?

Can't you book in BHKLMY classes and get 10 SCs?

No! When BHKLMY get 100% of Miles (with no minimum) and yield a whopping 280 Miles for a MUC-TXL Flight on AB.

AB does not offer a Business Class on their Short- and Midhaul Flights. The product is OK, Seatblocking for WPs and SGs and Premium Seats - so en par with other Euro Business Flights.

But when it comes to SCs ONLY Class Y Gets Full SCs!!!
This is for most partner airlines!

So even the bloody expensive Full Flex Tickets on AB get only discount SCs! I had about 50 Flights with AB in the last year and I only got once an Y fare: Because I was invol. rebooked!

It would be great if the very expensive Flex tickets could yield Full Economy SCs (like Classes Y B H). That would be fair - and neutral to cost: Half the lower fares, but double the higher ones.

So correct me if I it is different on other Airlines!

Frankly, I'm kinda surprised that no one's suggested "give WPs $100 every time they book a flight with QF", because the predominant argument here seems to be that putting a butt in a seat is more important than actually making a profit.
I am not going to go into yield management because I think you know it better than me but there are lots of flaws in your argument.

I fly SYD-BNE (or BNE-SYD) almost weekly. The price I will pay for those seats is <$100.

Does Qantas make a profit out of me? Do you think I am helping Qantas maintain their frequency of flights?

Assuming we got rid of red e-deals and made the cheapest airfare $200. I won't fly every week. I won't even fly every second week. I may fly once a month. Then again I may not fly that often. I am not the only one in that situation.

Does Qantas then make a profit out of me? What do you think will happen to the frequency of flights?

I will give you the answer in case you struggle slightly. There will definitely be less flights and I do not think that is a good thing for Qantas or business travellers in general.

My enhancement wish list is for "Qantas" .....to be able to entice me ....... to buy their 50% dearer .......RTW (OW) product compared to Star Alliance's product.

I am waiting ..... Please hurry up I have only a few days left.

Give me a reason to buy Qantas......

I have thought about taking the wife on a RTN JQi flight set from Syd-Melb RTN (use points for a hotel in Melb) just for lunch, SPA, Lunch SPA - :)

In a few weeks time I'm going on an FLounge run, my ticket cost me all of $35 thanks to a TT price match... I'm pretty sure that after a few drinks and some lunch I'll have cost QF more than $35, and that's before I even get onto the plane... (They will make it up however with my CBR-SYD and MEL-CBR flights at the start / end)

But how much $$ have you spent on QF to earn the right to enter the Lounge?

Potentially zero if one is guested...

But even then, someone else has spent the $$ to earn the right to bring a guest in.

See QF have the flexibility to change their programme if they believe such privileges are costing them. The cessation of MASA's is such a move.

I think the missed opportunity is to make Gold and Plats ambassadors for Qantas. When I had anytime access as WP I'd always book my visitors on QF so I could take them to the lounge before the flight home - I might go to the lounge when picking them up too. I can't do that now - At times I could book them on Virgin and pay our way in to their lounge.

So what about lounge access for WP if they are with guests traveling on QF. This gives some incentive for me to introduce visitors to Australia or our city to Qantas. Now - nothing.

It would be very nice of Qantas to give more privileges,be they small & free to self funded Qantas Club members ,such as seat selection, priority boarding.By paying to be a member of the Qantas club shows our loyalty ,so how about they recognise these loyal flyers as well.We may not fly as much as SG, WP, but we show our loyalty by being paid members of the QC.Just remember that a lot of littles makes 1 big.

I suspect this is not an aspiration for all, but as a QF Platinum for over 10 years and now Platinum one, I would love to see a Platinum for life target added...

I would like to see "standby" facility available so FFs could catch any flight with any sort of seats available instead of having to wait in airports for the flight on which they have managed to find a seat.

Also, I don't understand why FFs have to pay higher fees and taxes than customers buying a normal ticket. Does anyone know why?

Buying a QC membership isn't "showing loyalty" - it's a commercial transaction - you get certain benefits (e.g. lounge access, priority check-in) in return for a certain amount of money. If you don't think that's good value, then don't pay.

I snipped the rest of your post because you went off on your usual tangent of defending those on the cheap seats.

You missed my point completely, so I'll reiterate it:
- lots of people here are arguing for more benefits for SGs and WPs (or any status flyers). Why? Because "loyalty" should be rewarded - regardless of how profitable that loyalty is
- so, why not just ask QF for $100 in cash every time you book a flight? Probably simpler for QF than organising to deliver more benefits.

But the latter seems, well, ridiculous doesn't it? Especially to an airline losing money. So, why does anyone think that supplying any other benefit is going to happen?

Here is an out there suggestion. Stop serving alcohol in lounges. That would turn them from boozey pubs (Perth stands out) into places to relax or work. Go one step further and get rid of the TV's. The money saved could go to putting on food that people want to eat (rather than putting out food that is technically edible and not good quality but some how underwhelming). Maybe some money towards fast internet.

Please banish this suggestion from the record.

If someone has bought QC membership I would think in a way it is loyalty as no doubt they would be flying Qantas more than other commercial airlines so they can utilise their QC.
