This is a bit cheeky of QF IMHO. I assume the operating carrier gets the lions share of the revenue in the QF/EK partnership so it makes it worthwhile for QF to have a go. I have never heard of this happening before in any codeshare agreement.

If I was EK, I would be having some 'words' to my QF 'partners'.

As mick points out, EK did far more early on in the partnership, as was reported here on numerous occasions.

Does seem odd if there's no changes to EK's flights though.

Code shares are joint profit share for Qantas/EK

they get the same regardless of QF or EK metal as long as it is QF codeshare

This is one of reasons more EK and less QF

I don't think this is true. Unlike the BA JSA, I believe the EK partnership is NOT revenue sharing.

Are passengers allowed to select seats in advance ? How does one survive on such a long flight ?

Out of curiosity, anyone still believe that the QF/EK partnership is the rip-roaring success a certain CEO would have us believe, hoards flocking back to the QF kanga route because of the draw of the EK network ex DXB ... or that ALL remaining routes (post that announcement) are making money??

I'm sure the agreement is binding for a minimum number of years, however I posed this question to a number of senior QF and QFF execs prior to the partnership:
"Why would a premium QFF member fly Qantas once they've had a taste of EK premium cabins?"

A year later - almost every frequent flyer I ask prefers EK over QF in the air.

Time will tell BD :)

The early 2000's era J class 2-3-2 angled seating in the EK77W is certainly nothing to write home about. I will take the QF380 J class 2-2-2 lie flat seating over that any day. I have personally found the in flight service on EK 'very average' as well.

Regardless, from PER, CX is superior to EK/QF in J in almost every respect (lie flat J seats all the way to LHR/CDG/FRA, better in flight service, HKG is a better stop over point than DXB etc).

Wonder why the loads are so low- normal for the season or people aren't flying so much at the moment (non-essential that is)?

I think it might also be a sign of how many people who travel to Europe have a destination on the continent rather than LON.

One point worth noting though, being on the QF flight on 1 flight number means you'll get 10,516 base frequent flyer points, and 60 SC's. However, assuming the EK flight is booked with a QF code, you would have a different flight number. This will get you 10,651 base frequent flyer points (additional 135 points, if it means anything to anyone), and 70 SC's instead. You will also get 2 squiggles instead of 1. Very minor differences, but it might become the difference between you making PS/SG/etc or not at the end of your year.

While that's probably true (I don't know the workings of the agreement), QF will likely be losing money with a half full A380

Coming back from LHR at the end of Jan just before the end of the school holidays, LHR-DXB was quite empty. Maybe 70% load. DXB-SYD and DXB-MEL however were oversold by up to 15 seats.

That pretty much validates your point.

No, I don't. I also don't believe there are many (or indeed any) EK flyers on QF metal ex-LHR or DXB despite the dual language announcements, menus etc.
I have yet to fly on the EK codeshares because I'm afraid that if I do I will find it hard to go back

Couldn't agree less. My experiences with EK have been average at best. I don't like their hard product (only experienced the various 777 configs), I don't like their lounges and I certainly don't appreciate their pursers accosting me at the door and shoving a pre-filled Skywards membership form in my hand.

Oh...and then there's the food poisoning one of their totally uninspiring on-board meals gave me -.-

I must be one of the few that is happy to pay more to get on QF metal. Of my last 6 or 7 international trips I could not fault the service or the product in any way.

Likewise, though I haven't flown on EK as yet, but I choose Qantas over them anyway, as I like the airline and want to support it. I've seen photos of the onboard and lounges and neither appeals to me, but I guess it does to many. I did tour the BNE lounge (as they incorrectly denied me access) and found it not to my tastes, despite nice views and food offering.

The F Lounge in DXB is fantastic IMHO. I think it is far superior to anything offered at any other port QF flies to (including The Wing at HKG). I would rate this lounge as third after SYD/MEL F Lounges. I think this aspect of the alliance has been very positive. I've gotten used to the shorter night legs from LHR. I'm looking forward to a re-timing of QF 9/10 and hope it increases patronage as I would hate to see QF pull out of or reduce services to LHR.

I am not a fan of the DXB F Lounge at all. Having been through there about 6 times in the last year I find it much too large and lacking the intimacy of the QF offerings in MEL/SYD. Furthermore, the times I have been there it is loud, with a fair bit of noise emanating from the Duty Free area below. I'm surprised they didn't consider closing it off. I tried the "quiet area" only to be woken up by the Islamic call to prayer at about 5am! Nothing wrong with the call to prayer in itself, just found it weird that it wasn't played in the general lounge area, but only in the Quiet Room.

The seating options are uncomfortable IMHO and the place is constantly lit up like a Christmas tree. When you stagger in there in the middle of the night after 14 hours from MEL or SYD it is a bit of an assault on the eyes!

Interesting.

Out of interest, did the OP book the QF code on EK due to a price difference or timings? What's the price difference between the two for the travel dates?
price difference doc.
Also, based in Perth, which means EK to Europe these days, so that's just how it worked out. Booked through QF call centre though.

Never noticed any noise, maybe I've been lucky. I was there once when the call to prayer happened though
The food is great, and the spa is also good.

I haven't been on EK before, although my boss called the 77W a "$h!^*** little plane", and I know of quite a few others who aren't keen on the EK Y services. So I suppose it's just average at best, as others have put it. Haven't really heard about their J or F, however.

So, after speaking to Plat this is the fallout: no guarantee my DXB connection on EK (QF Flight Number) will be guaranteed if I make the swap to LHR departure on QF metal- I have to talk to EK to sort that out.
For all you PER residents on AFF: I was told that due to my final destination (PER) not being a QF international hub, there was nothing else QF could do to align the flights all the way through. As mentioned above, I booked entire original journey through the QF booking centre! Sooo...
