Re: 2015 in review

Racked up 27 sectors for 52,648mi... bugger all really however, apart from BNE-ISA-BNE every other mile was leisure, either in F or J.

I like that leisure concept! My plans are headed that way as well........just slowly!

Re: 2015 in review

I will hit my 70th flight on the 29th of this month and that will complete my year. All flights were on QF domestic economy. I rack up the points the hard way.

Re: 2015 in review

Swanning it you reminded me.2015 was the year that I spent the least amount of time at home.Grand total 38 nights meaning 327 away!

Re: 2015 in review

48284 miles
14 airports (LCY BCN NRT OOL new)

Best experience: Gathering of far-flung extended family (UK, US, Aus) in a villa in the hills above Sitges over the summer

Best FF moment: when Mrs & the four Mstr andyes realised they were flying back LHR-KUL-SYD in J (for the first time). I'd kept it a secret until we were in the cabin

Re: 2015 in review

Okay, bit better then last year.

I have two flights to go but the year end numbers will be:

Flights: 35
Miles: 42,661
Airlines: QF (11) NZ (8) AA (7) VA (3) UA (2) EK (2) US (1) JQ (1)

New Airports: TPA, BUR, CNS

Only two IRROPS situations. UA handled it 1000 times better than QF did.

Bring on next years adventures :D

Those Tassie sojourns going to continue? Does Mrsdrron enjoy the freedom of the shops while you are away?

MEL-SYD-MEL-SYD-MEL-CNS-HKG-BKK-SIN, ATH-LHR-BLQ, LHR-BKK-HKG-MEL-SYD-MEL-CNS-MEL-BNE-MEL-SYD-JNB, DUR-PLZ, CPT-DUR-CPT-JNB.

Most domestic in QF Y, all international in CX, BA, QF J. Hardly any SCs earned as I've been using up QF and AA points/miles. Highlights were a month travelling around Italy by train, 2 months in an apartment in Paris, a fantastic 33 day cruise on Seabourn Sojourn from Singapore to Athens, seeing Petra, cruising through the Suez Canal and seeing a lot more of the amazing country of South Africa, which I am still doing. All up a very memorable travel year.

Next year it will be Paris, Poland and Canada and the US. Looking forward to continuing it.

Wow. I thought I was bad.......but I'm assuming your nights away were leisure? My 265 nights away from home were exactly 30% leisure and 70% work :(........I am however, working at reversing those percentages! :p

Re: 2015 in review

We had some really great first time experiences this year:

* tried CX J to FCO via HKG
* a Japan trip and the JAL NRT first class lounge
* a TK Y flight with a sample of the famed TK IST J lounge
* EK F back from AKL with a shower
* had our first lounge meet up with a fellow AFFer - Boomy

My favourite travel experiences were:

* watching a Sumo tournament in Tokyo
* walking Kyoto and exploring Ponto Cho
* drinking an ice cold beer in an outdoor onsen while it was snowing
* wandering around Florence in late winter with smaller crowds
* Chelsea Flower Show
* 5 days walking around Istanbul
* Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia
* staying on the Croatian Coast and swimming all day in the Adriatic Sea.
* watching seal pups play at Ohua Waterfall, near Kaikoura, NZ
* our SYD Flounge sessions

Next year will be a quieter year, but not too quiet!

Yes the Tassie nights + Armidale, geraldton and Broken Hill.By the end of Feb will have worked in Armidale,Kalgoorlie and Tassie.

About 50/50 work and leisure away from home.

Re: 2015 in review

This year has been another great year of travel! At 78 flights I've done more sectors this year than any other so far, and visited a number of new countries and destinations.

New airports: HAJ, BCN, OPO, ORY, GIG, SDU, CGH, POA, VCP, DFW, LGA, YUL, ZQN, CFS, JNB, CPT, PLZ, DUR, HDS, LVI, TSV, PER, BME, HNL, KOA, BKQ, LRE, BCI.

Airlines: QF (31), JQ (12), JJ (5), BA (5), AA (4), AB (3), TT (3), HG (2), 4U (2), FR (2), AC (2), SA (2), HA (2), EK (1), NZ (1), VA (1)

Best flight: It is too difficult to pick one! But all of my favourite flights for the year have been on Qantas. QF8 and QF63 were most enjoyable long-haul flights, even though I was in Y. But trying out the new QF A330 J suites on a BNE-PER flight was pretty special too.

Worst flight: I've had a few shockers this year! A couple of horrible overnight flights on AA and JQ come in as close runner-ups, but the worst flight of the year would have to be (what was supposed to be) a simple one hour domestic flight in Brazil on TAM. The CGH-CNF flight diverted to VCP, but this was just the start. For reasons I still don't understand, we were sent back to CGH on buses (almost 3 hours in the wrong direction) before being put on another bus in Sao Paulo for the 9 hour journey to CNF. There was no virtually no communication and we were fed a single sandwich throughout the ordeal. I eventually arrived in Belo Horizonte on a bus at around 5am the next day. We were supposed to arrive around 18 hours earlier at 11am!

I don't imagine that I'll be doing quite as much flying next year. But hopefully there'll be a few more flights in the pointy-end, thanks to points. :)

Roughly 60K miles

Hard to choose between the SQ F from SYD to JFK or the Asiana F from LAX to ICN as my fav.

Only problem is J seems so "ordinary" after the experience.

May the award gods let me jet stream my way into a first apartment trip sometime in the not too distant future

Re: 2015 in review

Very quiet travel year, and looks to be the same for the next couple at least!

New Airports: RKV (Reykjavik Domestic) and VEY (Vestmannaeyjar).
New Aircraft type: BAe Jetstream J32.
New Airlines: Icelandair, and Eagle Air Iceland.

Re: 2015 in review

85 segments - up from 78 in 2014
156,946 km (97,522 miles) - up from 142,039 km (88,259 miles) in 2014

Mainly domestic/Tasman travel this year with one trip to the US and 3-4 to Asia.

Really enjoyed getting back to HKG, such an amazing city and one of the best skylines.

Re: 2015 in review

The scary bit for me is we only have two trips booked so far for next year and the mileage is almost as much as what we did over all of this year...

Re: 2015 in review

No work travel for me in 2015 (or the past few years really) but here's hoping that will change next year... along with my job

I managed to rack up 25 segments and 41,675 miles this year across three overseas trips and four return domestic trips. And, thanks to a well-timed trip to the US in January, I will qualify for PS after being NB for a few years. Not that it means much given I have QP membership, ha ha.

Highlights:
- Finally getting around to seeing Vietnam (well, Saigon at least) and Cambodia
- Getting an upgrade on MH from SYD-KUL and KUL-SGN
- Taking Dad on his first, and probably last, trip to Greece so he could finally see Rhodes, Crete, Santorini and Athens
- First time to Dubai. Might not be my last.
- First snowboarding trip to Queenstown. Definitely not my last - I think it's spoilt me for boarding in Oz!

Lowlights:
- The married man trying to pick up the much younger lady seated between us from DXB-SYD, after showing her pictures of his kids. Both gross and weird, yet oddly compelling.
- The germy baby from SYD-LHR who gave me a nasty bug for the first few days of my trip to Greece. Thank goodness for over the counter antibiotics!
- Seeing how much Greece has changed, for the worse, over the last few years

All in all, a good travel year. Here's hoping for an even better one next year :D

Re: 2015 in review

New Airports : LAX (ugh), Perth, Jo'burg and Cape Town.
14 sectors, can't be bothered working out miles.
Flew a combo of Virgin, Qantas, AirNZ, Delta and SAA.
One thing is certain : I will never again fly SAA in Y! I don't even think I'd fly it in J or F...
