a little bit quieter than last year but still far too much domestic Y travel for comfort, really enjoying my new job that doesn't have any travel!

any compatability with flightdiary.net too? came across it and just spent the weekend inputting a couple of years worth- not keen to repeat that!
I see that flight diary will import some data, but unless it will export, say to a CSV file, I am not sure you can import to the AFF Flight Tracker.

A little less overseas trips this year. 70 segments the vast majority of them work related and domestic totally 63502 miles.
No new airlines but visited 2 new airports DCA and BWI. The highlight of which was the landing into DCA and seeing all the DC landmarks. Hoping to again hit Europe next year and maybe more leisure and less work flying would be nice :)

Damn I fell just short of 1 flight a week!

48 segments for me for just on 98,000km.

Longest was to AUH.
New airports were CMB and PQQ.
10 were Int and on SQ/NZ/EY
Rest were Dom - all on VA and all bar 8 were SYD-MEL route.

Worst run was 12 Dom segments in August alone.

From April 2016 I started my own company, thinking that travel would slow, NO! With a 3 month break still did 131 legs and 191,653 miles. Next year is already booked up. About 250,000 short of the 3 million lifetime, but will give it a nudge in 2017

I had a diary with the year planner in the front and had a tally at the bottom of each month of # of flights. I lost the diary end of November so felt quite deflated about it. I don't fancy going through the statements to tally things up either. I know it's more than 50, not sure I made less than 100. Have 2 more flights this year.

Northernmost destination Prague but airport was BUD
Southernmost destination ZQN
Westernmost destination FCO
Easternmost destination LAX

New airports EPR (drove last yr, flew this yr), ROK, KTA, DOH, BUD, AUH, FCO, MLA
New Airlines EY 789 Y and J, and QR 772 J, A320 Y and J were a definite highlight and keen to try more of these 2 in 2017. Ok A320 Y with someone reclining into me wasn't a highlight but overall QR has possibly trumped my EY fettish this year which was unexpected. But I need a larger sample size to be able to tell for sure:p
KM AZ JQ also (although flew 3K previously so ... same thing really).

F cabin: 1 - swapped out to Y to give someone else a b'day surprise. So maybe that should be 0. If it had been long haul I probably would have cried :D
J cabin: some
PE cabin: some
Y cabin: lots

May I ask, what took you to do any African countries?

As a lover of Africa, I am really impressed! And that you backpacked. I'd love to hear more. How about a TR?

I have Ethiopia lined up for Sept-Oct 2017. I'm now regretting that I didn't allow enough time to visit Lesotho while in S Africa in July this year - but sensational Madagascar called. And I do want to get to some places in W Africa before my time is up.

At the risk of going well off topic - I would love to talk more about Africa! Feel free to PM me should you need any info about Addis, or the surrounding area! A TR might be out of reach due to my workload this time of year, perhaps I should post some snapshots as a compromise? I had to cut Ethiopia short, as I was there when the Oromo and Amhara protests near climaxed.

With regards to accessing West Africa: Senegal, the Gambia and Mauritania is VOA/Visa free - so that part of West Africa is very doable. Togo has VOA, Ghana has an embassy in Australia, CIV and Gabon both have e-visa processing. Cameroon visa is VERY easy to get from Sydney. The consul is an absolute gentleman and is happy to answer any queries you may have. Nigerian visa was a b**ch to obtain. I nearly missed the trip because my Nigerian Visa only arrived 2 days before I flew off, after countless phone calls to their embassy and handing in my passport 1.5 months prior (and their website stating that Visas take 1 week or so to process).

I should confess, some of the 'backpacking' costs in Central/West Africa can get terribly expensive. Transport is hit and miss, there is no such thing as schedule. I had to wait almost half a day to catch a minivan back to Douala from Buea. Flights are insanely expensive (this is where zone-based awards help minimise cost - eg SQ). Visa costs are through the roof. Nigeria alone was almost 250 AUD, Cameroon 120AUD, CAR 100USD.

A year in which my number of flights reduced, but hit my highest annual distance. Still small compared to many, but;

43 segments
163,126 km
9 days, 7 hours and 54 minutes of flying time...

NCL northern and western limit, AKL eastern, MEL southern.

Firsts include ZRH (next week), EY J (exceptional door to door PER-LHR), CX PE (booked as Y sold out - bearable long haul, worth a premium price, but how are people paying the eye watering figures I see listed? Its worth a few hundred more than Y IMO, definitely not thousands. OT Sorry...), ANZ trans tasman (meh (Y) - but thought SYD lounge great).

I've enjoyed EK J points upgrade PER-VCE, and not enjoyed the Y return, SQ J to BKK, an SQ op-up one leg PER-SIN, too many other SQ Y flights with one of my PVG trips having to be mixed class as Y sold out. I almost had to be booked into suites and was immensely disappointed when that fell through . I've also managed to use all my plat upgrades on the A330 BNE-PER hops, great product IMO.

Next year starts in style with my first first - EY F return to AU. 777 F so no apartments, but I'm not going to let that take the shine off! Been on the bucket list for a while and this forum has helped a lot in making the reality come far sooner than it should have...

My flying year finished on the 21st. Have probably broken my PB for number of sectors but possibly not distance.

We now have friends who think we are never home and that we stay in business for the frequent flyer points. I don't bother with mile counting but I did get a note from Crowne Plaza in Changi letting us know it was our tenth stay. We break the long haul to London and or Los Angeles now and it has been a great idea.
Making platinum status with Qantas in one trip from Perth to New York and return was a very good idea in 2016 by using a double status offer for both of us.

My stats for 2016...

Miles flown: 141010 (down from 154651 in 2015)
Number of flights: 77 (down from 106 in 2015)

Canberra-Melbourne-Devonport and return.
Canberra-Brisbane and return.
Canberra-Melbourne-Perth and return.

Canberra-Sydney-Bangkok-Helsinki-Milan (Malpensa)-Alghero-Milan (Linate). Then Milan (Malpensa) back to Canberra as per flights over.

Canberra-Melbourne-Singapore-Colombo-Doha-London (Heathrow). Return London (Heathrow)-Doha-Colombo-Kuala Lumpur-Melbourne-Canberra.

Canberra-Sydney-Auckland and return.

The boss also went Canberra-Sydney-Vancouver and return in Y, but didn't do the trip to Auckland.

Domestic flights in Y except Melbourne-Perth return which was J. International all in J except Sydney-Singapore, mostly thanks to joining this forum and the help given here.

2016 saw my most popular route being between OOL-SYD.

The best thing about the year though was that business class accounted for a third of my travel! Higher than usual :)
