You are obviously a lush - would you like the bottle?

The whole reason she brought it to you in a plastic cup was so you didn't have to rush drinking it. They don't want you holding onto glasses during landing but plastic is fine.

I can't recall having been allowed to have any service item with me while landing, except when they forget to collect. Per my OP, the plastic cup at that stage was fine, but as I expected, it was collected when the seat belt sign came on, about 5 minutes later. I knew that would happen, and she knew that would happen, yet she served me a plastic cup filled to the brim with wine. There was no way this was going to be emptied, except by 'skulling' the wine (or spilled during the bumps on descent). That's what pissed me off. All I asked for was a 'top up' - from the small amount that was left in my glass, to a normal serve.

I'm prepared to be charitable with the offer of the bottle if its not an uncommon occurrence but I'm quite certain the full-cup thing was her making a point. Don't bug me when I'm clearing away the cabin.

A totally out-of-usual-experience for me in QF J. I guess anyone can have a bad day (including me :) )

I prefer it when the FA says "would you prefer if I just left the bottle for you sir?". It simply implies that I enjoy my tipple and it saves them having to go back and forth so regularly as to provide their recommended daily exercise requirements just for furnishing me with a suitable libation!

I wonder if they would do the same with the bottle of scotch?

Phew......................I thought I was the only person that looked like a drunk with my plastic cup on decent hahaha!

Sounds like a werid attitude, most of the FA's are more than willing to oblidge on alcohol, I must admit we had a group of people in J mid year and we were actually asking for 'rounds' on the plane, never thought I'd do that  but there wasn't any quips or attitude and the FA's were quite happy and content about us, hell they were suggesting all sorts of juices and mixers to have! I had a FA give me the bottle in F LHR-SIN too as I said I liked it so she asked very politely if I would like the bottle to be left on my table........well how could I say no?

Guess it seems dependent on the F/A and what their attitude is towards those of us enjoy having happy juice!

This....

earlier this year on my last Mel-syd my 3rd beer was in plastic and I finished it off as we taxied

perhaps she over poured or just wanted to make sure the op was well watered... (I know they kept me well watered in pe from hkg last Sunday...the fa brought me a "proactive" beer when I hit the call bell :D I need to fly qf more from hkg...)

No one doubts that pilots are important staff members in any airline.

However, surely paying passengers ought to be given the best seats on any mode of transport.
I would not put blame on the pilots in this case. The CSM/FA should know they have a whole cabin to serve and ensure they have time to finish the service not spend time chatting to off duty crew.

Also arent off duty staff supposed to be served last? That is where the inconstistency comes in.

I have had cans/plastic cups and sometimes even glasses/bottles left behind with me during descent when I have been in domestic business.

it was my understanding at least some crew (maybe it depends on their rank?) were to be served after paying pax so they get a choice of whatever is left. I have sat next to crew a couple times on Qantas (identified by a lanyard) and the serving crew have said 'we'll be back with you when we have finished the service'.

As for why QF is so slow? I really don't know. There does seem to be a lot of fiddling with domestic business class meal trays... taking off covers, setting up the water glass and whatever else they fuss around with. That's probably not the crew's fault but someone in head office who thinks it's a good idea. Although most crew do seem to be working in slow motion when they're doing what they do.

I don't make any secret of my love for a drink when onboard and if I'm in row 3, which I avoid like the plague, I often pre-warn the CSM on boarding with a quip about getting some Grant Burge on ice. Particularly on breakfast flights, as I notice it then comes out before the service.

I have had many CSMs thoughtfully supply me with cans, minis and plastic cups (the Waterford) pre-descent so I am able to enjoy a beverage all the way down.

If the crew looks mean and stingy in Y, I pop a bottle into my seatback and refill my plastic cup when the belt signs go on.

I have had some try to take the plastic away from me for descent. It ain't a service item in my book. I don't know anyone who has ever been injured by flying champagne.
