:p :p :p Dave, my saviour. This is exactly what I am after, particularly the most generous allowance for the entire trip. I'll be travelling after Sept 30 so that may be a trouble, but it might be worth forking out the extra $$$ to have security that I won't be touched up by CX or JL.

Just out of curiousity, do you think BA would apply this for those with status, in that with QF (for SIN-BNE), I would be allowed three at 32kg (and hence the most generous post Sept 30), or would they just apply the standard allowance (2 at 32kg), making the BA allowance more generous?

Sorry to be a PITA. Thanks!

I don't see that it would make any issue. You would have already paid the excess fees for the sectors before SIN_BNE. I would not bet on that unless you are prepared to collect your bags and check back in again

Dave

sorry, sorry, sorry to ask but............. I thought i had baggage allowance all figured out from previous help.

Now with info. above I'm confused again am I correct in taking two bags on my trip...bne - lhr (stop) qf
lhr - yul (stop) ba
lhr - jfk (stop) aa
jfk - dfw (short transit) aa
dfw - okc (stop) aa
okc - dfw (transit) aa
dfw - lax (then travelling back to oz) aa

I too am on an award but think this isn't issue. I'm only silver and understand I don't get extra, etra.

I really apologize for being so thick, tp

Hi Trish,

As it is a RTW the piece system applies so you are definitely allowed two bags, but the AA flights mean you will be limited to 23kg per bag, not 32kg per Qantas. It is $25 per bag if your bags are over 23kg but. Hope this helps!

Cheers,

PS. I have just noticed that you are Qantas Club and Silver which means you are definitely enititled to an extra piece on QF operated and marketed flights with a North America itinerary, an extra 10kg for International itineraries not touching North America (under the weight system) and an extra piece on domestic services. This probably won't be honoured on the AA and BA flights though.

This has all the details summarised for Silver.

If a booking on the one PNR includes ANY travel to or from the Americas (Canada, US, South America) the two piece system should apply for all flights on that PNR.
Yes but I am worried how AA, BA and AY will interpret the rules. I don't want to have a confrontation at checkin and calling supervisors asking them to check their rules. Most will interpret it as 2 pieces but still a total of 20kgs.

IMO, limiting what you carry is good for the back anyway. ;)
Not just that but I think it is better to play it safe. I will have a suitcase with 22kgs, I think the WHY baggage allowance on AA, BA and AY is 20kgs, and an extra bag able to carry some extra things. If there are any issues then I can offload some of the things in the suitcase to the extra bag.

Normally I can fit most of what I need into 18kgs. This includes 8 shirts, 3 polos, 2 pairs of slacks, 1 pair of jeans, 2 pairs of pyjamas, 1 pair of joggers, a sweater just in case and some other essentials. There is no point in taking away any extra clothes. Being away 5 weeks I will need to find a cheap laundry in the places where I spend more than 1 night which should pose no great problem.
