Hi All,

Apologies if this is discussed elsewhere.

Looking at booking MEL-CNS-MEL for daughter and infant grand-daughter. QF is the preferred airlines (with DJ a close 2nd) due to infant allowances on cabin baggage etc. Dates that looking to fly - early Oct - prices are high for the few direct flights (again connx not being considered) and the only award availability is on JQ.

As a WP would QF even consider releasing an Award Seat considering the pax flying is NB?

Regards,

BD

I got 3 J class seats return to LA released ( a few attempts). I'm WP but MrsZim and KidZim are NB

I am wp and tried to get an award seat released for an October flight TSV - MEL last night, but was told by the call centre that they don't do that for domestic, only international.

Was this for Y by any chance? Was just reviewing elsewhere before placing the call and a poster stated that QF will now only open J award for Domestic. Does anyone know for sure?

I did not get to say what class I wanted, I asked to release a classic award seat and was stopped there.

OK, I spoke with the Premium line and, although a negative for myself, the good news is that QF will still make Domestic Y Award available. It sounds like they have a cheat-sheet they go through to check the available revenue classes - and only if these are available for cash purchase will they even consider putting the request through to Yield Management for release.

Sadly, in my case the required revenue classes were fully sold (not surprising this close - lesson #1 for daughter!!) - but my request was not summarily dismissed. :)

My understanding of the situation is that it does not get the same priority as if you were making the booking for yourself.

That is one reason they ask for the name of the passenger and FF info before making the request.
More than likely they also look at what kind of flyer you are, if you have/will retain platinum and a bunch of other metrics.

It's not just about if a particular class is available or not....
