Hi team,

As of Tuesday night I made WP for the second year in a row. Currently sitting on 1210 SC with cut-off August 31. All 67 interstate flights (BNE-SYD-MOV) completed to date were in economy with no double SC deals or op-ups. I'm not fussed about flying in Y as you get what you pay for, and half of my flights are on twin prop's with Y only. I don't hold my breath for an op-up EVER. But it would nice to get a double SC deal more than once in 2 yrs. I think I'm getting to WP nearly the longest method possible, if it wasn't for work getting us 20SC's on our 4 flights/month, I'd be setting records, and not good ones which got me thinking.

Has anyone made WP with only red e-deals? If so you deserve a cold beer.

cheers,

Sort of, yes red-e-deals for 80% of earn and 98% of flights. Except supplemented by JQ starclass.

Well done.

I made WP the first time on about 80% red-e deals BNE-CNS return weekly with a few Flexi economy fares to LRE. It took me just over 9 months earning an average of 38SC per week. I started the year at Silver, did not fly in January, did not make Gold (and get QP access) until early June, then the LRE flights kicked in and that sped up the earning a little and I achieved WP in September of that year. All without leaving QLD. Sure felt like I'd earn't it the hard way. I do miss flying regularly, but I don't miss having flying as part of my regular commute.

I feel your pain dmitri :p I'm going down the same path every year and then keep going all the way to P1 with about 75% Dom Red-e-deals in total.

Hi team,

cheers,

I got renewed on 100 flights from Brisbane to Gladstone (up Monday, back Friday). Most discount Econ (10sc), but I did some last minute flight changes on a Friday which become 20 SC flights. I did this 2 years running.

The easy way:): Syd-Hkg-Tpe rtn J, Syd-Sin rtn J, Syd-Lhr-Dub rtn J (10 flights)...sorry just had to put it out there!

I've done it 4 times now with mostly red e-deals. The rest were long haul flights that had an even worse SC per $ and SC per hour return!

Nice!

I just did 1,400SC in 6 weeks over 11 flights BNE-SYD(J)-LHR(F)-ATH(J) ... IST-LHR(J)-SYD(F)-BNE(J) ... BNE-SYD(J)-SIN(J)-BKK(3K)-SIN(3K)-BNE(J)

It took 7 of those flights to clock up 1,200SC:)

I got zero to P1 through only domestic flights this year, but a lot were business class to Perth so I wont use the word hard..just long...

Couple of years ago did MEL-LHR 10 times in the one year to obtain WP all in Y. Now that was long and hard.

Ooh, I shudder at the stories above!

Just wondering: Why does QF require you to actually go on the flight to give you the points and status credits? If they've got your money, aren't they (ever so slightly) better off if you don't turn up?

If would mean people could potentially abuse the system by purchasing cheap airfares just for the SCs earn and basically "cheat" their way to higher status.

The airline would get the revenue, so would it care if someone "cheats"?

It will eventually devaluate their loyalty programmes.
For the same reason you also can't earn stays at hotels unless you show up at least for check-in.

I'd have to challenge this; if they're not turning up then their not using the benefits, the airline still has the money from them to pay for the benefits (not being used).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Those who would pay for SCs probably do fly regularly but just come short of the next tier.

Back in the day when SYD-SIN got you a whole 30SCs for 6 hours flying - that's the really, really, long way to get to WP - international Y was much harder than domestic Y. Since the simpler/fairer changes, at least the higher Y classes now get a better SC earn internationally on QF.

Today, there are "relatively" cheap ways of getting status (e.g. YUPP fares in the US) that are tolerated because the number of people who take advantage of those fares is limited (you need to be in the US for starters). If you can just buy those fares and get the SCs sitting at home, then obviously the potential for a lot more people to quickly and cheaply "buy" status is there. And then QF needs to start offering them lounge access and so on when they do actually fly, regardless of how little money they've tipped into QF's coffers.

Yep. I'm currently on 3150SC with mainly red e-deals. No promos. ~200 domestic Y flights in the past 12 months I believe.

I will miss P1 as my status resets July 1.
