WP Advance Seat Selection

I'm 5'10.

Was more a visual observation than anything. Exit row aisle on a 737 for me is great. Only downside is how incredibly slow some people can be to disembark.
Incredibly slow. Sometimes I look back down the aerobridge in BNE and hardly anyone behind me. Even more noticeable when landing at gates 16-21 and looking back down the corridor and only seeing a few people.

I've not sat in row 4 on the refurbished 737s (the ones without the curtain between Y and J). However, it looks like legroom is less than the old ones. Is this the case?

It's the same, as best as I can tell.

Wouldn't have been a UM, it could've been a YNGP (Young Person Travelling Alone), any kid 12 and over where the parents don't want any supervision or anything.. UMNR's on 737's are always row 29 or 30.

Well yes, I only overhead the CSM refer to a UM, but then said "She's 13" so yeah... also something about "her father was somewhere on the plane" somewhere? Surely the manifest would say.. but anyway. Yes they had some other UM's who were down the back.

tbh I did wonder for half a second why a UM(which I assumed to be an under 10 type UM would be alone in row 5 but then I heard the 13 y.o. thing, and then I thought I'm not so sure about a teen girl sitting alone with whoever else might be seated next to her, but really none of my business and I only overheard a few words- this CSM was a lil loud to not hear).

They may have moved her anyway as they went back for a bit, but I didn't look to see or anything.

Hands up who remembers the days past when there was ZERO advance seat selection on either domestic airline (TN or QF/AN) where the computer said yes or no the night before flight and popped you all in seats and you had virtually no say?

I do! :)

Yep.

I used to get to the airport quite early just in case I didn't like the seat.

I am another, I also recall carbonated paper tickets with pull outs for the issuer, check in staff and a flyer copy, some times even hand written.

Not noticeably. The downside of the curtain edition was the last row of J reclining and pushing the curtain back on to you. Now you 'own' your space.

How tall are you? Legroom feels the same to me.

A better question would be how long are your legs? Many conveniently forget that people have different builds. For example my sisters are the same height but one has substantially longer legs than the other.

Assume it's the same for row 4... but a TA that knows what they're doing can allocate row 1 way before T80.

This is one thing that'd be nice if they try to fix.

Platinum in 4C with Bronze in 4B.
Bronze in 4D with shadow
Bronze in 5D with shadow

See the pattern?

Yes, that is very annoying indeed!
If I have time, I would sometimes check Seat Alert before T-80 to see which row 4 seat has been taken and will try to book the seat on the same side during T-80. Shadow would usually stick unless that pax moves of course.

Try WPs in 51a and c on same booking and NB in 51b. Happened more than once.

As a WP I have picked the middle seat in the front row before to get the extra leg room though I would prefer to have a different seat in row 4.

I do the same, last Friday pulled forward to an earlier flight only middle seats to pick from rather have 4B or 4E and any of the others.

Sick of Qantas reallocation of rows at the airport. I always select row 6-8 depending on the look of the seat map. Never row 4. He loathes it. Tonight - they've reallocated to him to row 4. Not happy Jan.

A related question - I have just booked flights SYD-BNE-NRT and HKG-SYD on Qantas for Dec/Jan this year. For some reason, the normal WP selections are not available. For example, on the SYD-BNE flight, all seats back to row 18 (on a 737) are blocked and similar situation on the BNE-NRT and HKG-SYD legs. Any ideas why this might be the case? I tried the Qantas chat and got a canned response about the seats being under airport control, but given the flights are months away this is clearly rubbish. The booking is for me, the wife (SG) and two kids (NB) but normally the seat selection drives off my WP status
.

A good TA will sort that stuff out :!:

Is your WP number/status correctly in the booking?

I would not bother with online chat - they have been hopeless.

I would call ..

Is it possible that Qantas think all WP regard row 4 as the best? If so, any way to stop it? A free seat is preferable to bulkhead and last night row 4 was chockers but the next 9 rows had spare middles.
