IIRC 20 years ago they were getting $35K per end, per store, per week - there is a reason the EBIT is $3.75B
With changes to the way in store promo planning is done (buying and marketing doing most of it centrally and each store having little to no control over it), stores will get sent stock for ends if they need/want it or not. Even things that don't sell in that area. Even lines that store does not normally sell.
The last numbers I heard, for a "medium" store, the store is required to tie up to 8 front ends (eg, in most stores that size, all front ends) and 1 back end. (these are the ones the suppliers pay for). This then leads to stores getting stock that they can't sell because buying and marketing don't listen to what the stores tell them, force stock on them, then blame the store when most of it needs to get marked down.

A lot of the problem is that the people at Norwest who decide a lot of things have never worked in stores before, don't listen to the staff who do and if they hear anything that goes against what they've already decided, they ignore it and act surprised when things don't work/happen the way they thought it would.

A question was asked about getting 5% off gift cards from Coles. The answer is YES but it is much harder than Woolies. I get them from a friendly third party as I cannot get them directly.
 
+1 to not being asked about my preferences.

Coles is closer to me and has better parking, however its a smaller store and doesn't stock everything we purchase so we will need to step into another store for a small number of things. We also shop at Costco for some items.

I seem to receive Flybuys offers weekly, including a brochure with paper coupons in the mail during the week, so I will be giving these a closer look at as well as what I can actually do with those points as I've only been accumulating, not using.

We received a good deal of points from EDR, but the changes to the earn rate at Big W sent me to Target as I prefer its clothes for kids. I expect we will shop at WW till 31 December and close to the end of the year swipe both children's cards to ensure their accounts stay active. I use the toolbar to keep their accounts ticking over as well. Now that one of them is no longer considered an infant, his account should be ok. The younger one may need to start sending her mothers some Qantas flowers :)
 
As much as people are jumping up and down and claiming they'll never shop at Woolies again, it looks like the move from Woolies is a smart one. I think it will have a positive impact on the business.

I'll miss the QFF points, but in reality they never amounted to any useful quantity - have a look at your EDR hub to see how few points you have actually accumulated via this programme.

So overall I can't see this changing my spending patterns.

I used to only shop at Woolies because of the QFF points, but over the past half year have moved shopping to Aldi and Coles and haven't looked back. Have been saving way more money getting the basics at Aldi, and Coles stores and variety leave Woolies for dead. I think Woolies need to improve the overall shopping experience and overall pricing (ie not lowering prices by a piddly amount via a "buy select products" rewards scheme).
 
Oddly, I will probably benefit from this move. I like my points as much as the next guy but most of my shops are very small. I would do one $30+ shop a month, if that, and it would be if stocking up on the non-perishables and still only hit $50 or so.

So the big question is how long it will take me to hit $10 and whether items I actually want will come with these discounts. In the meantime, 3 ppd and 5% off means I still get potential QFF points with every purchase.

Everyone going to Coles suddenly- do you have a source of gift cards or were you not using the 5% off. And regardless, do you not have an edge card for 3ppd? I would like to see how others are making the figures work because I have a nice Coles, closer to home than my Woolies.

Agree to some extent. I mentioned in an earlier post about how it's a cost cutting mechanism and other posters have mentioned that wow will select the products that are discounted, undeniably passing the cost of that discount on to the suppliers willing to pay for a trade promotion.

I feel most consumers would be horrified how little of trade promotions are actually funded by the supermarkets themselves, and how much the supermarkets squeeze the suppliers (well, if most brands weren't controlled by 7 companies, anyway).

I see the point that suppliers would be less likely to cost share say 100 bonus points with WOW toward their product, compared to say, paying 80% of the cost of the WOW discount only passed on to EDR members, with the rest being worn by WOW as the return to the store to use the dollars will undeniably set off any loss to a ma & pa shopper who won't game thr system.

Furthermore I hope the ACCC keeps a close eye on this. Coles and WOW have effectively created another channel through which they have ultimate control over promoting one product over the other. For example my latest FB booklet of offers had at least three Coles branded meat product FB offers. The potential for anticompetitive behaviour here is substantial.

I have had a look. Between the other half and me taking into account Woollies, BWS and Cellarmaster we have funded partial QFF airfares worth several thousand in the past 12 months. While it may mean I drink too much, the points will be missed.
 
First change will be to ensure that the sales sheets for all three local chains (WW, Coles, IGA) are actually read each week. And in one direction the IGA store is actually a "farmers" cooperative. They are useful for many things, especially since IGA started a regular price matching program. Alas they don't match the sale prices very often.
Secondly, whatever WW$ are on offer had better be compelling or the chances of swiping a "loyalty" card will be approaching zero. Bye-bye big data market research. I wonder if WW management considered that?
Thirdly, the average spend per visit will likely decrease. Getting into town is a couple of times a week process, but each will likely be a grocery shopping trip to one of the three.

As a sub $30 shopper, I will most likely be better off with the new earning system (depending on the actual earn). I would guess that 95% of my QFF/EDR points were earned through 500+ bonus point promotions.

The only guaranteed loser from this change is QF. With Optus and now WOW both dropping out from QFF, the loyalty division earnings must be under pressure with two big name and big spending partners dropping out this year,

Since inception I've earned just enough for a $100 WISH card (around 16,000 points). During the same time I've earned more than 1 million points from other sources.

I think you'll find that the majority of people are in a similar situation.

My supermarket spend has drifted from WW to Coles over the last six or twelve months. WW offers started to dry up at about the same time as FB offers increased. There were still the occasional big shops to qualify for large bonuses - e.g. spend $50 over 4 weeks for 10k FBs. But on the whole, I was able to do more impulse buying at Coles than having to wait until I needed $30 worth to go to WW.

Now when I occasionally visit my local WW I am asked where I have been. I simply say that I don't get the FF offers I used to. These days they are limited to 'double points over $30' which doesn't excite me that much.

I would prefer a loyalty scheme that did not have a minimum spend for regular earning - a la Coles

I would prefer a loyalty scheme that gave me a choice of earning $ or FF points. WW have just cut that one out for me so I will have to go looking for another one that does... Oh wait! :shock::rolleyes:

Pleb, whether you are a winner or loser will depend on whether you buy the orange items.

Reality is rather than having the orange everyday rewards only discounted prices, they are now building the discount into a wallet.

Unless there is a substantial increase in these orange ticketed items, I think it's a negative move for me
 
For me the interesting change is that you cannot earn points on fuel. This used to be a steady points earner for me and influenced me to buy Woolworths petrol. Over recent months I've been finding Coles stores, pricing, and bonus points far more attractive than Woolworthss have been shopping at Coles. The new scheme at Woolworths has little appeal. No points, only cash rewards, compulsory use of cash rewards at $10. So looks like Coles and BP IN future. And Velocity points. :mad:
 
A bit OT - As raised elsewhere on the forum don't forget if you are currently set to receive 2 QFF points per litre on fuel to check that it's actually being credited, mine hasn't for the last few months. Would like to know where the communication about this has been.

Of course. The majority of my points come from other sources too but the EDR contribution is still significant to me.

It won't be cat food. They'll be wondering about pallets of toilet paper. A few weeks ago, they sent my store 8 pallets (36 boxes of 3 per pallet for around 820 units over the 8 pallets) of a brand of toilet paper we do not normally stock. They expected the store to sell the entire lot during the 1 week special. Didn't even sell 1/3. Some larger stores got upwards of 14 pallets.
