Woolworths gift card thread

Can someone remind me how difficult it is to use residual balances on the good food gift cards? Restaurants generally ok to split a bill to get rid of a small balance? Going to a few different restaurants this coming weekend so considering them.
Could you use them at McDonald’s etc self pay stations ?

From Wed 6 May 2026:
You should always convert physical TCN Good Food gift cards into digital ones here (via the Go Digital button) so that you can add them to your mobile wallet (e.g. Apple Pay) as they’re more likely to be accepted that way.
Thanks for that little gem in your post.

I have now converted some cards with smallish balances to digital (Google Pay) - it that work OK, then I'll do some others as it may be easier to use NFC/paywave rather than swipe and pin.

I was able to convert some PUB and BAR cards as well.

I don't convert them, because:
  • fraud
  • I did it once, the process was a pain
  • EFTPOS often attract lower surcharge than MasterCard with merchants

Take these into consideration.

Question for @VantageXL who posted this 👇, and anyone else who might know, re the Pamper cards.

"Unofficially, TCN Pamper gift cards have been to known to also support:
  • 3747: Club Corp/Club Resorts
  • 7997: Clubs: Country Clubs, Membership (Athletic, Recreation, Sports), Private Golf Courses"
How do/can I know if my private golf club is in either of these MCC categories? I could call and ask but I assume the staff would be unlikely to know that level of detail. Or I could do a test I guess but then I might be stuck with a fairly useless card.

Finding out what MCC a business uses is tricky but there are a couple of ways.

If you have an Android phone the TCN app reports what MCC was used for any transaction (even failed ones) so you can try to pay with an old TCN Pamper, Restaurant, Pub & Bar etc digital gift card and then check what code was reported. Annoyingly, it doesn’t work in the iOS version of the TCN app.

Another way is to ask your bank if you’ve previously spent money there. Some either won’t or can’t tell you so this method isn’t reliable.

Last resort is asking the business directly but they almost never know the answer.
