Woolworths gift card thread

Mr O, if interested I think you will find Netflix on at Coles on the current cycle for 2,000 points for $50. Slightly better deal, just depends which way you want your points to go.

Thank you for letting me know. We rarely use Coles and I don't really have a use for Flybuys other than converting to Flybuys $$ and using at my local (over-priced) Shell Coles petrol station.

The Woolworths points convert to the $10 off which is better for us.

Note a limit of 1 gift card per membership applies at Coles with these cards. No such limit applies at Woolworths.

From Wednesday March 4 get 1000 bonus points for a $50 version or 2000 nous points for a $100 version of the following gift cards:

Netflix
Google Play
Uber
Adrenaline"
Baby*
Home*

*My personal warning is to stay clear of these cards. The significant problems detailed in this thread are still evident. These problems include cards not working in select stores and problems converting cards to use online.

" limit of 5 Adrenaline gift cards can be redeemed at one time on their website.
I don't usually buy the Uber cards, but does anyone know if they can be used for Uber Eats and if so is there anything I need to know about?

Yes, they can be used for Uber Eats (the gift card simply adds "credits" to your Uber account, and these credits are shared between Uber and Uber Eats). At least the last time I checked.
And no, nothing special to know about.

Limit one per customer?
No limit.

But buy 10 or less otherwise the machine can't handle it.

In fact I'd recommend buying 5 or less at a time. 10 takes a long time to process.

I'm up to 100 x $50 card so far across 3 stores. Plenty of stock around.

obviously you see value in converting to QFF?
250 QFF for $5.95+ credit card points?

Check your maths.

'You will receive 1000 Qantas Points for every 2000 Woolworths Points earned, if you are on the Convert to Qantas Points redemption option.'

So 1000 Woolworths Points = 500 Qantas points.

At that rate, each QFF point costs me $0.0119 (which is close to the rate that people illegally sell points).

I also get the 2 x points for using AMEX that feeds in Marriott Bonoy for me.

Given the minimum redemption I ever make for QFF points is at least $0.03 per point in value and more frequently $0.04 to $0.05, this is a winner for me.

Even more so given that the good old days of free money have long since gone. Opportunities like this are becoming increasingly rare. Only a few years ago something like this would come up every 6 weeks or so. Now this is closer to twice a year. Coles have instituted the once per membership purchase for their offers. How long before Woolworths does the same?

I acknowledge that this isn't the best possible opportunity ever. But show me a better way for cheap points and I'll be there! Especially since this is now being impacted by the total number of point you accumulate:

As I understand it, these EFTPOS cards cant be used online... only at a points of sale.
Do you mind if I ask advice on a suitable strategy for using them?

Do you use them for following purchases at Coles/Woolies etc, if so do you earn points when you use them?

Many Thanks

Correct.

I tend to use them at places that I can't otherwise get a discount (eg not Coles or Woolowrths as I get the 5% gift cards to use) or use Only 1 Visa (or similar credit card offering), where I can't get 2 x points with my AMEX or where there may be a surcharge for credit card.

Examples include local council rates, Aldi, hair dresser, local butcher, local green grocer etc. If I have a small residual balance on the card I use it at Woolworths or Coles via the self check out machines. The $50 cards will be more problematic vis a vis the $100 cards, but the return on points for fee is clearly better for the $50 cards. But it will be fairly easy to dump some of these cards by buying exactly $50 worth of fuel.

Historically I've used a lot of these cards when I purchase foreign currency.

Do you use them for following purchases at Coles/Woolies etc, if so do you earn points when you use them?

You will earn points when using these cards at Woolworths or Coles. They are just like any other form of payment.

Just the capital tied up is half ?
D'Oh - just read the $6.95 vs $5.95 activation fee

Yes, $6.95 for $100 card, $5.95 for the $50 card.

Not much I know but it does make it slightly more attractive.

So personally for me this deal would cost 0.9 cents per QF point. Trying to decide if it's worth $300 to get points club plus for 18 months. Probably not, given the lower travel levels.
If i could buy these with EGCs like the good old days, it would be a different ball game. The question then would be how much money I'm willing to trust with the company issuing these gift cards.
