Hi all,

I'm going to be in LOTFAP in Nov/Dec and I'm looking to do a run before my assessment date in November. There are a lot of warnings regarding runs in winter on the forum and I was wondering whether any members who've done winter runs could provide any more advice. I plan on doing an East-West run further South, and using ExpertFlyer to help out with rerouting if required, but a few questions below:

Which ports are traditionally most affected by winter closures?
Are there any places that should truly be avoided?
How have you dealt with bad weather in the past?

Cheers for the advice,
sl

In November you should be fine. The two times I had problems were winter storms through Chicago and New York. On both cases I was re-routed in first class - and still got the SC's I had originally paid for.

You should miss blizzard season (Jan/Feb). I don't think it will be too bad in Dec (I was in NE US Dec last year and no snow!)

I was thinking of doing a LAS-ORD-MIA-SJU run (or possibly starting from HNL, actually) around 10 Jan - is that likely to be risky?

I went to Vegas for New Year's at the end of last year, staying until end of Jan. Had a number of flights between LAS, LAX, MIA, DFW, SJU, JFK and had no problems at all with weather induced flight changes.
