I've been looking at a small (30-40 bottles) entry level wine fridge/cooler and am wondering if anyone has some recommendations. It doesn't need to be fancy, just a decent reliable unit that is reasonably cheap and good value.

Was having a read of articles like this:
Tyson Stelzer » The Wine Fridge Explosion

Came across this website and it looks like I can get a 72 bottle single zone model for $349 or a 32 bottle dual zone for $237.
Wine Fridges Australia | Thermoelectric Wine Cooler Australia

I used to work in the homewares department of Target over 10 yrs ago and remember selling some then - but a quick browse of the website doesn't show any.

Recommendations or thoughts?

I can't comment on those, but I went for the Vintec 32 bottle single zone. Appliances Online have it for $555 with free delivery. I'm very happy with it and ultimately I went with the brand reputation. It is possibly above your budget though.

Bought the same (old model I assume) on sale at DJs years ago (c. late 2008) at $400.

It's moved three times, been in two houses with "sketchy" intermittent power outages and still going strong.

Wine still going strong too.

Famous last words…...

I have a Euroart 50 bottle which has been great for 5 years. Word of warning though; i still have no idea how you get 50 bottles in it. I have tried stacking every which way, and cannot get more than 42 in and shut the door!

Thanks for the replies, something over $500 is probably more than I'm willing to pay but I'm certainly considering it..
Any other opinions?

I like Kitchener wine fridges although they may be more than what you budgeted for. The one I have has a 280 bottle capacity but I'm sure they make smaller ones too. FWIW they are an Australian company, Melbourne based I think. Great products with the range encompassing basic wine fridges to storage cabinets for the serious collector.

qff store has those vintech 32 bottle single zone units for 98000 pts delivered... i'm tempted to pull the trigger

How many bottles do you want to store? My Vintec will allegedly fit 110 or something but I would struggle to get about 80 in it. I can't imagine many more than 15-20 in a 34 bottle fridge.

I'd have to check, but I think I have between 25 and 30 in my 32 bottle fridge. You have to be a bit inventive and champagne bottles do bugger things up.

I bought a hisense cheapie from the good guys.. dual zone.. looks ok.
It's got a compressor so your grange may be lightly vibrated..otherwise fantastic bang for your buck

Not the greatest for your power bill, the cost to run will exceed the purchase price in a year or so in many cases for the cheaper units, and vibration is not great for wine. However if your in an extreme climate you may not have a choice.

we don't get a power bill.. we sell power …. :)

Very much so. With a general value of 2-3c per point on business flights, that's an expensive wine fridge.

i dont get it ... assuming 98000 is a rip off?

Indeed. Just on domestic business I could get airfares that retail for $2400 with 96000 points. But then I need to take those flights. If not needing to fly perhaps the fridge is better value.
